It’s not a fun role, but it’s not a passive role either. Being the only tank in the team we rely on you to make the push… but lately there’s been a lot of passive ass tanks who just don’t push! We get a pick and most of time their still outside the point firing their pea shooters outside their preferred range oooor trying to… flank?

It’s all just quick play scrubs, but christ give me a Rein who charges in cause at least he’s doing something. I can at least try to defend him and he’s actively pushing them back by merely being there.

Yeah and when I push you guys get mad and leave me alone then say tank DiFf. Like if you weren’t like them then those people who make us do this, they don’t focus on what they should do they just watch the tank which makes me hate this game

When this happens and I’m support I just nicely ask the tank to be more aggressive and lead the way in. Usually they listen and if our team actually groups up then it goes well.

I do hate it when a tank takes the lead and goes in the at the first sight of combat continuously backs off the point or runs.

I recently had a match where I was playing rein and actually trying to push them back, and this one guy on my team decided to start ranting in chat about how rein apparently isn’t supposed to push the enemy back and that I didn’t know how to play. They were a healer who spent more time typing the entire match than actually playing so we lost. I’ve almost never had issues pushing the team back with rein as long as people push with me.

Being the only one Tank on the team applies more stress to the tank player, both mentally and digitally. The tank has the most jobs (create space, peel, kill, deny snipers, etc) and the most pressure to do them all. We get all the blame for every Defeat screen, and even seeing the enemy tank get told “TaNk DiFf”, you can often see that they were playing fine and you just had better teammates

While we can’t go case by case without replays, I will say it’s becoming a common trend because of how over-tuned backlines are. Some tanks (Hog being the most obvious example) literally provide more space by existing around a corner than by pushing the enemy backline because certain supports can just delete him or negate his entire kit if he tries to walk around the corner.

    oooor trying to… flank?

Yeah, walking into the choke is death for half the tank roster due to certain heroes.

Just a bunch of reasons why tanks can’t push:

    • being forced to wait out and respect abilities (Mei wall, Bastion turret)

    • having to wait for the dps and supports who just died to a sniper

    • not getting healed and being unable to push in with half hp

    • dps and supports not being able to deal with flankers

    • ends the game faster when merely playing for a weekly challenge

    • too much damage in the choke to even walk through until dps (and supports) either flank or take an off-angle

You either push and the supports immediately focus heal your dps, or you push and get melted/anti. The solution is to only push when the enemy tank dies first

As a tank main, I play passive because I don’t trust my teammates to actually push with me and help me out if I move forward. I’ll gladly push, but I’m not going to waste my time getting slaughtered while my DPSes and supports sit back and do nothing to assist me.

I actually prefer to be very aggressive as a tank. But I cannot push if I can’t trust the supports.

Because of you push then you get deleted by the entire team and your team falls over, tanks need to play it safe, check mate the tank, pick off stragglers. Then you can push in and finish everyone else off

i hate that ppl thinks that the tank has to do everything and the team just has to shoot random stuff, the tank sometimes he cant dive in because of several factors, it can be an ana, it can be a bastion, it can be a shit ton of things, the dps and supports also needs to enable you so u can push, making the bastion back down or die or disabling their supports,

sometimes when I’m agressive as a tank everyone else on my team cant use natural cover to pass through chokes then I die alone waiting for anyone use all the space I created

Another thing to remember is depending on the team comps on both sides, the tank may not necessarily be the proper engage.

For example if you have a Sombra it is perfectly ok for them to hack and annoy a backline, which makes some of the team turn, and then you can push in while their attention is split.

If you have long range dps you can look for a pick off from the widow or Hanzo or even ashe which then gives the green light.

Got a mei and roadhog? Hook to wall, get a pick, then push forward.

So it isn’t always just “tank pushes charge button and team follows”.
