Ya’ll spent most of last season making fun of Tim Connelly but he’re the reality… every move he has made outside of the Gibert trade has been gold for the Wolves. And while the Rudy trade was a clear-cut overpayment, he is being proven right that Towns and Gobert can work.
He also had the KCP trade lined up before leaving town. I was told by a Nuggets reporter we all trust that trade was happening during the Avs Stanley Cup run. Aka well before Booth took over.
So while Booth derserves mad credit for the Bruan selection and for the Brown signing (and Bruce has alluded to him not being the Nuggets first option last offseason), I’ve always felt Booth got a bit too much credit for our run last year. Because if Mal had been healthy in 2021 or 2022, we very well may have had a ring before then.
Meanwhile, Booth has mortgaged nearly every trade asset we have for the following return…
Thomas Bryant (no longer on the team)
Julian Picket (an undersized 24 year old with zero ability to get to the rim or create his own shot)
Kamagate (tbd but as of now, he does not look like an NBA player)
Watson (was a reach based on the idea he could develop offensively but has shown zero growth on that end)
Strawther (who I think is gonna be a player but who had huge question marks about his ability to play defense in the NBA and has been getting shredded on that end)
Now, I expected to get downvoted to all hell, but I think the conversation is woth having. Because we have very few ways of upgrading the roster. All of the chips are pushed in on kids who, outside of Julien, were drafted ahead of where they were expected to go).
And as of right now, none of those kids look ready to contibute. And we failed to cash in our title on any FA agent signings better than RJ and a completely washed Holiday.
And the team has looked worse is this recent stretch than they did at any point without Murray in 2022.
What money are we supposed to upgrade our roster with? 4 players on the team make most of the money. There isn’t a ton of wiggle room so we have to have cheap contracts.
Role players like Brooks, Brown got paid and we had no chance to sign them.
connelly’s only flaw is he overpays for players he believes in. he overpaid for gobert but it was a brilliant move to give minnesota more length and rim protection. it’s clearly working out for them so far.
connelly also overpaid for an injured mpj. there is no way there was a market for a max mpj from other teams while he was hurt but he ended up offering mpj that deal.
I’m completely unsure where the booth hype is coming from. the dude has basically decimated our draft future. we have 3-4 tradable seconds left and I don’t wanna see us lose them for trading zeke etc.
not sure if any moves can be made this season if the starters arent being traded. nobody on the bench has any value at all except braun.
I’m still hoping this is an RJ Hampton situation where the nuggets pumped up his value just by talking him up and simply by being a great org that drafted him. So they were able to somehow center a trade around him & Gary’s contract. Maybe they’re doing the same thing with Watson & Strawther and can package them together with Zeke’s contract and get someone worth playing
You realize with how well Pwat started the season he would have been a lottery pick this year right? He’s only 21, had some solid performances to start the season. But like many others is in a bit of a slump recently. You know we’ve played 5 games in 7 nights this trip and most of them have been on the road. We are down our starting point guard, down our do it all backup to MPJ in Vlatko, and our starting pf and shooting guard are out of place because when Murray and Jokic are the top 2 options, with MPJ the 3rd, then AG/KCP can play the 4th option. We’ve been screwed by the refs every game lately, and we don’t make free throws when we get them at a good enough rate for that not to matter.
This post was an overreaction 100%. Once Murray gets back everything will fall into place, including pwat getting his mojo back, Gillespie/Pickett playing decent spot minutes, Strawther coming in at the KCP/MPJ relief shooter role. At that point Nnaji’s offensive effect will be negligible with the bench unit having the stagger that won it for us last season.
We just need a good rest and reset.
I really don’t know why we drafted Jalen picket when there was 3&d type of guys like 6’6 Andre Jackson who played for UConn still on the board. Now he’s looking solid with Milwaukee. And why isn’t hunter tyson playing? He’s tall and looks like he can shoot, but idk maybe not that good in practice
Wym about “Bruce has alluded to him not being the Nuggets first option last offseason”?
The young guys have looked great at times. Way too early to reach any conclusions.
It seems like a whole lot of dudes just hit shit streaks all together. Hopefully they’re just getting it out of their systems.
The game tonight was an anomaly. This is the time of year for this shit to happen. Get it all out.
