Is it not safe to say a change is overdue? This isn’t my opinion on what should happen, but I see Weaver getting fired if nothing happens. With the unlikely chance we get a quality free agent this summer, it seems like our future is going to depend on a trade that we see in the next two months. That is a scary ass spot to be in.

Now if he pulls the trigger on a trade, and it ends up sucking……… Going to be a rough time for a Pistons fan.

Who gets traded? I see the writing on the wall, I think one of our young guys gets dealt if we go for anybody significant. Probably Bojan or Burks as well. Weaver has a VERY consequential month in front of him and he cannot afford to fuck it up.

I agree I want to see this team with Bojan, but I feel like beyond him we need some more veteran presence

Weaver’s job is probably secure because he’s a figure head doing a bad job on a “first time GM” salary, while Arn Tellem is doing a worse job behind the scenes. No real GM of stature and competence is going to let Tellem puppeteer things while the owner doesn’t give a shit in LA. Besides that, tickets will still sell, leading me to believe Gores (the root of the problem) will do jack shit. Just have to hope Troy “um, uhh” Weaver doesn’t do anymore dumb shit.

Only rational thing I can think of is let Ivey, Cade, Ausar and Duren grow together, hope Cade’s conditioning, ball handling and decision making gets better and pray Monty Williams doesn’t continue to be a disaster. We wasted preseason and 13 games not letting Cade and Ivey mesh, now we’re using real games like it’s preseason. It is what it is.

Ivey needs to be the main ball handler or at least share responsibilities. All that “positionless basketball” talk was horse shit if they’re going to pigeon hold Cade to doing everything while he’s clearly not ready for that responsibility.

Easiest fix of all is get Duren some ankle braces for Christmas and burn all his KD’s and Kyrie’s THAT HE’S STILL WEARING. Grow up bro, you’re not a guard or a 7ft 210 lb guard-like sniper. All high tops are not created equal.

The next step will be signing Cade to a max extension, then granting his trade request to a competent franchise.

Then we start the restoration restoration. This time with assets, so people stop giving Weaver the excuse he started with nothing.

Detroit’s starting unit held their own vs Indiana thru 3 quarters. They ran out of gas in the fourth because there is no depth behind them. Get Bojan back, move Stewart to the bench, and this team will be better if Morris and Harris can get back and contribute scoring off the bench. Ivey and Cade definitely need to be a pair in the court.

Weaver has done his job. He has drafted talent. He has made deals to draft more first rounders. He has picked for talent and not fit. That is what you do in a rebuild. Did have misses? Of course. Do we have a young team full of talented players that don’t fit? Yes.

They are trade pieces. But they have not reached their full trade value yet. And we are not going to get all-stars for these players. We have to keep grinding and developing so that these young dudes find their game.

Once they get over a hump, if they do, then we can start attracting all star talent for gaps and we can start drafting for fit. Ideally, some of the guys we already have develop into all-stars first.

If you think we were going to be contending this year you didn’t know anything. Granted the team is vastly underperforming. But Weaver definitely should not be fired for doing what he should be doing.

That being said, he isn’t done. He does need to start making moves to build on the pieces that are showing promise. But again, who are we actually doing to attract to Detroit? The last thing I want him to do is to make a panic trade that sets us back another five years.
