Guma has now arguably been the best performing adc at three straight World Championships (2021, 2022, 2023). Has any other player in the history of LoL ever been the best at their role at three different Worlds? The only one I can think of is Faker.
He also straight up gapped Gala & Ruler. The word “gapped” has been so overused/misapplied lately but this is an instance where he was straight up outplaying the 2 best adc’s in the world (e.g. Varus outplay on Gala, 1v2 play on Ruler/369)
The guy has only been playing for 3 years and already has LCK + Worlds + 3 insane worlds performances. Maybe it’s a hot take but I already think he’s the greatest adc that T1/SKT has ever had, and is a top 10 adc all-time already.
I’m not even a T1 fan either (I generally root against T1 because of their fans), I just think international performance (performance, not placement) matters a lot and Guma is basically Uzi 2.0 in that he gets a worlds buff, but I hardly see anyone giving him credit for it.
Gumayusi is arguably the most consistent/reliable ADC in the last 2 years. He’s the type of ADC T1 needs for playmakers like Keria and Faker who constantly roam the map. While he doesn’t have the highs of players like Ruler, he can definitely match those players and may even outperform them on a good day. Sort of like Bang from 2015-2017 which allowed SKT to win so much titles except Guma is much more mechanically gifted. The only player that I can argue to be really as reliable/consistent as him would be Viper except Viper’s teammates are ass this season.
Eh I’m okay with them not talking about him. Will make for an easy golden road next year.
Guma is the best ADC in my mind.
No one else at Worlds was even close to his peak, like in those 2 plays you mentioned (I frequently mention both of those plays myself). He even went deathless in the final.
People go on about how great Ruler was this year, but;
- I don’t watch LPL, so it’s all anecdotal
- I watched every Ruler game at Worlds, and he was good, but not amazing
Guma also played the most champs of any ADC at Worlds.
The only possible downside to Guma is he does get to play with Keria. That would make me look good!
Don’t know why youre getting downvoted but youre absolutely right. Ruler is a top 5 ADC itw but honestly he was extremely overrated. At worlds he was extremely mediocre only having like one or two pop off games and he was drifting along the rest of the games. In the LPL he was either last (spring split) or near the bottom (summer) in damage share stats for an ADC. He also had a lower DPM in the LPL summer final than the enemy top laner Zika who OTPed Ksante for most of the series. Ruler glazing was insane, and this is three years in a row where Guma was the better ADC than him at worlds. Even last year he was by far the best ADC and just barely lost out on worlds too. It’s not like Ruler had a bad support these last 2 worlds either.
And vs T1 this worlds, Ruler was just trash. Game 3 he completely ruins JDGs whole game plan of fighting at 2 item spikes after he gets caught out in his infamous ruler spot by Zeus, leading T1 to a free baron. Then in the same game when the game state is really good again for JDG he greedily steps up for Q poke DESPITE seeing Faker on vision and his whole team was moving back during the siege, letting Faker Azir shuffle him, throwing the game. Finally in game 4 he gets spoonfed a shitton of gold on his comfort pick and yet he still gets out teamfought by Guma and misses several point blank zeri Q’s on him. Ruler is probably the worst “best player in the world” ive ever seen
Viper slightly better in 2021 imo. Gala was also very good despite losing early. But yeah the last time someone dominated ADC position is probably UZI 2013/14 (domain Ted way more tho) and ruler 2016/17. PraY imo underrated too. Guma best 3 year stretch definitely tho.
People flamed Pyosik for missing those baron smites in 2022 Worlds Finals, but how many pro ADCs would have sniped it the way Gumayusi did under those same conditions? Many players don’t get the same credentials because they play and win alongside Faker, but Gumayusi is genuinely clutch and should be in the conversation for top 3 of all time, at the very least, after these past two Worlds.
he’s been the best adc in the world the last 2 years but i think he’s just a bit more quiet about it. gumayusi will drop a 10/0/5 game and finish 40 cs up on the opposing laner but no one will notice
can we talk about how hang troll gala by not using his ultimate to save him?
I was very suprised to hear a lot of very knowledgeable people still rate Keria > Guma. Keria peaks higher but if they want to golden road this year Keria would be the player to replace for me imo. I don’t think you can have a full year of dominance with a support that has such a special champ pool. Guma is beyond cracked on basically every important champ, even his zeri gets talked down a bit but he can certainly play it and i think there is a good chance he could be great with another sup.
Gumabussy…
Go look up gapped from where it’s actually from…
It should never be used like that.
Imo hes already on Droolers level in the ADC goat convo. LULer has been overrated for years
Guma is a beast but wasn’t his showing at 2021 fairly poor? I may be remembering incorrectly
He was insane from what I remember. Looked like the best Aphelios player in the tournament.
Remember the baron steal with varus Q on game 5 finals worlds 2022 he almost gave t1 hope on winning that title lol.
bro, just because Guma has had the best time of his career this year doesnt mean that he was better in the previous ones.
2021, hands down Viper was the best.
2022, i guess you could make the argument at worlds but he didnt have the best time across the whole year in the LCK.
2023, yes, even when T1 was slumping. Guma was holding the team together.
Guma just seems like a fantastic person overall, I’ve watched a lot of their backstage stuff and he’s always so happy. He also said it’s all Keria, which is cute, but I think that does take away from the fact that he’s just an absolutely insane ADC. I think they really connect as a duo, though
