We have 10 picks over the next 2 drafts
2024
- 2 firsts , 2 seconds
2025
- 3 firsts, 3 seconds
We are a fairly well loaded roster (many who I don’t see being with us in 2 years, let alone until the end of the year) at the moment with a few interesting guys in the G league (mainly Sidy and Barlow)
We have to get rid of some of these picks especially as even further into the future we have a lot more picks.
Who do you realistically think we can get for low cost or maybe with some players who aren’t getting minutes? (maybe Devontae Graham)
What? Our roster is one of the least loaded in the league lol
May bad I meant we don’t have many open roster spots
I would draft this year, get one of Castle/Holland/Walter and one of Collier/Topic/Proctor. Then if we are bad again 2024-25, keep our pick but start listening to offers for ATL 25, CHI 25, ATL 26-27 to see if we can get an existing star. Idk if we can and long term we probably just use these picks to develop talent. My only hope is someone like Luka, ANT, LaMelo, SGA demand a trade and then we can cash out picks. As non-Spurs as he seems, LaMelo would be great here
And I am sorry but you absolutely ask Kawhi for a meeting this summer if he’s a FA and you offer him it all because that would signal to star players to come to SA to join him and Wemby
Kawhi does not want to be in the city of San Antonio, period.
We make open roster spots then. Keep Wemby, Devin, and Sochan. Everybody else can be traded or waived if better players become available.

You acknowledge that most of the guys on the roster will not be here in 2 years then you say we don’t have roster spots. Of course we have roster spots for picks. Everyone except 4 guys are expendable. And I’m being generous. The whole point of the draft is to upgrade. If you draft a better players, McDermott, Graham, Mamu, Champagnie, Bassey, Rice, Bediako are all gone. Some of these guys will be gone as soon as the trade deadline.

LOL. No. We have to get rid of the terrible players on the roster. We use the picks to replace them. We don’t get rid of picks.
I have my eyes on quite a few people we can nab with those second round picks that I really want to see on this team. Isaiah Stevens, Tyler Burton, Zach Edey… second rounders are usually trade bait but despite the lottery being weak this year, there’s gonna be some steals late in the draft.
McDermott, Osman and Graham might be traded this season, Collins next season. We can trade those 2nd rounders for future 2nd rounders like what we did with our 33rd pick in this year’s draft.
McDermott is probably not getting re-signed. They’ll probably try and flip Graham as an expiring contract; same might go for Jones if they don’t see him as part of the long term plan. Mamu doesn’t get re-signed. So there seems to be some amount of openings
Maybe the Spurs pull something like they did with George Hill and try getting a team to bite on a trade where the best talent that is available at their pick might be redundant. E.g., If some team that might be in the lottery like the Blazers, Hornets, Grizzlies, etc. happen to no longer have who they wanted available to them, and the next best players are guards, maybe the Spurs can lure them with a wing and a pick swap
The Spurs typically don’t trade picks. So the only thing I can really think of, if possibly trading an upcoming pick, for a future pick down the line. Sam Presti is doing something very similar so they are also set for the future
CHI 2025 isn’t going to convey well if they blow it up, maybe in 26 or 27?
I would sit on the picks unless you can cash out for a young PG like Maxey, Hali, SGA, maybe Garland. None will be on trading block tho unless an act of god happens.
I would say draft a PG and SF this year and whatever missing pieces in 2025. DJ is willing the Hawks to be a play in team it seems so that pick will convey 13-17 in 2025 tho 2026-27 could be high lottery
I think we’re a few years out from needing to consolidate FRPs. I have no clue what the plan is w all the 2nds we have.
I’m hoping the player we end up moving picks for is a talented young player that comes available for goofy reasons. Absolute ideal of this is like Chauncey Billups or Halliburton, but doesn’t need to be at that level
Halliburton would be perfect for our team imo.
As with all assets, you wait until an opportunity presents itself. On draft day you might be able to do a 2-for-1 or 3-for-1 to move up and grab your coveted player.
