In every press conference and interview, MCDC always talks about “limiting the explosives.” If you were drawing up a defensive scheme where the number 1 priority was limiting explosive plays, you’d have the Lions:

Cornerbacks play soft off coverage

Safetys play deep

Linebackers never blitz, and always have eyes on the quarterback in a zone scheme. On running plays they play sideline-to-sideline, but never downhill.

Defensive line plays a 2 gap mush-rush scheme, where keeping contain is more important than getting sacks or tackles for losses.

I personally think this falls directly in the DC. He’s the one calling the plays, and has shown he has no idea what to do or call in specific situations. He’s also shown inability to adjust to what opposing teams are doing on the field. Our defense has generated no pressure because of such a basic rush that’s easily stymied. His scheme is horrible, the players appear absolutely unmotivated and lethargic, and Aaron Glenn seems too arrogant about how abysmal this defense has been. His last presser where he was touting statistics and defensive ranks sounded completely oblivious to how bad things have been the past four to five games.

I hope that this is AGs last year and we get someone capable and competent.
