Alright everyone lets FOCUS. What are our thoughts on this matchup next week for us. MAJOR playoff implications here, a win give us the tie breaker over houston if we need it.
Houston has an impressive pass offense ranking 3rd in the NFL but a terrible rushing offense ranked 4th WORST (thank god). They have a very solid defensive line but a suspect passing defense
We are looking good but is CJ Stroud looking better? What are our thoughts here
Personally I can see this going both ways but i’ll give the edge to the momentum of the broncos at 27-30 after Houston misses a buzzer beater field goal with 2 seconds left on the clock.
Edit: Vegas has Houston at (-3.5)
The Bronco’s and Texans are two pretty healthy teams right now with very different offensive schemes and results. Take a look at QB stats. Stroud has been very effective in the mid-long range. Russ has been a Game Manager to the T.
Our defense has gotta play tight with receivers especially Surtain on Dell. Get the ball back. We need even more pressures to limit big plays passing. Keep em as close to 100 yards or less rushing.
Our offense needs to keep churning out sustained drives with points. Houston gives up TDS rushing but solid between 20s. Keep 3 and outs, out. Keep feeding Court. Boy hungry. Please for the love of God have Jeudy make a big play, or a bunch or smaller ones. Also I hope JW gets another TD.
We can win this one. So can Houston though.
Broncos 24 Houston 20
I think Denver matches up well, being on the road makes it tougher. The Texans skill players are massively outplaying expectations, but Denver has the secondary to win that match up. OL wise they’re very beatable, Tunsil is very good and Mason is another good player but otherwise I think we should be able to get some good pressure. I think with our varied coverages and pressure looks we have the defense to cause Stroud to have one of his rookie games. Their run game is fairly weak which is huge for Denver. We’re the best secondary they’ve faced yet, and they’ve had lower outputs against some good secondaries like the Saints, Falcons
They have some pass rushers, but their defense is the weakest we’ve faced in months. Probably since the Bears game. If the team can continue to success on the ground game that’ll be huge, but I wouldn’t be surprised if this is one of the most productive games for the passing O so far.
Of course these things never play out as expected so I guess we’ll see lol

Run ball, force turnovers. The Formula is working.
Texans have two #1 WRs right now in Tank Dell and Nico Collins. It’s gonna be hard to cover both of them well all game, especially with how good Stroud has been at extending plays and dealing with pressure. On top of that, Dalton Schultz has been a good safety net for him.
I definitely think this is gonna be the hardest game out of the last 5 we’ve played, even though two of those were against Mahomes and Josh Allen.
It wouldn’t surprise me, nor would I be particularly upset if we lost this one as long as we keep it competitive and don’t beat ourselves. 6-6 after 1-5 still isn’t the worst thing, and we have some winnable ones coming up with the Chargers x2 (which are never gimmes but we always seem to split) and the Pats at home
Insert any football scheme cliche and I think it works. Our formula for success has been dominating time of possession and playing incredible defense. Stroud is legit, but he’s a rookie so I’m hoping Vj dials up something to confuse him.
As much as I love JW, we need to keep the 3 headed rotation as each back brings something different to the table.
Mims needs a minimum of 6-10 touches/targets in space. Let’s bring that the old tunnel screen!
Russ has to continue to manage the game and take shots when necessary. He and SP have done an amazing job at not putting the ball in harms way.
I think we do match up very well with Houston. Stroud is a fucking beast but I think the way to beat Denver is with a strong running game and great OL play. Houston doesn’t even average 100 yards a game on the ground and will have Stroud drop back 40+ times, that is a recipe for a turnover or 2 with the way the D is playing.
Historically, we’ve done well in Houston and Payton will find chinks in Demeco’s defense. It won’t be easy but I’m definitely confident in our team to win this one.
This might be our biggest challenge of the season. I believe though.
Pass Rush. Biggest factor for this game, as good as our D has played, if we can’t get to CJ he will dice us up. He’s a young QB, but i think he’s far too smart to try to try the normal “tricks” you would on a rookie. Put PS2 on Tank Dell since that seems to be his guy.
This broncos matchup is way better for us than the browns on paper. Our pass defense should get at least a pick or two and VJ is going to cook up some pre snap formations and movement to confuse the rookie qb just like he did with the browns
I read in an athletic article this am that Houston leads the league in air yards per attempt and per completions. we are gonna have to get some consistent pressure most of the game and maybe live with them running the ball in big chunks at times to prevent a big play downfield. CJ is the real deal but if we do what did against KC and buffalo (pressure in the pocket to force bad throws and tighten up in the red zone) I think we got a shot late to steal a win on the road. They are never out of a game tho with that passing attack and so I think Denver has to be aggressive in any/all scoring opportunities to get 7 vs 3
What are our thoughts here?
My thoughts? I feel good that we have Sean Payton and VJ gameplanning this week.
Those 2 deserve a lion’s share of the credit for our resurgence!
It’s going to be an interesting game and a hard fought battle, but I think the team that can score the most points will end up being victorious here. Back to you, Dan.
