What’s the consensus on Johnny doing play by play? Blaha is the goat but he’s getting up there in age. When he finally steps down, is it Johnny’s role for the taking or would you be open to someone else?
There was some moments where Kane is caught in the action and forgets to say anything. Otherwise, I think he’s fine. He’s not bad, but he’s doing his best to fill shoes of an institution. An impossible task for nearly anyone.
It’s Johnny’s gig to lose. He has great chemistry with Special K and put in the years. Thinking back to when he first broke into the market, he was pretty much intolerable. Over the years though, he’s proven himself, at least to me, that he gives a shit about Detroit sports, its fans and the broadcasts he’s a part of.
He’s a solid replacement for whenever GOAT Blaha decides to hang up the mic.
I couldn’t bear listening to him last year. Noticeably better this year, better than some regs covering other teams. But, he possibly can’t fill the combover of Mr George Blaha
Id say they are grooming him to take over whenever George decides to turn off his mic.
He’s likeable. I like him. From a technical standpoint (whatever that exactly means, what do I know about announcing?) I feel like he would be the worst in the league.
I am one of the few here who was around for Blaha’s very first Pistons game back in 1976 when I was a wee lad. A piece of me will die when George retires…so I hope he takes his time before calling it quits. Johnny will be a good replacement, I like his enthusiasm, and he’s paid his dues.
