I understand he is a fan favorite, and in recent years homegrown talent we’ve had the best homegrown drafted talent of the 21st century.

The only homegrown guy to be an All-star from 2000-2018 was David Lee

Porzingis was solid but between not having 2014/2016 first rounders the 2 players we gave him were Hardaway and then Frank. Not the best help to be building a core talent

But in recent years it’s the opposite, Mitch, RJ, IQ, Grimes all being drafted from 2018-2021. Pretty much got a piece of our franchise every year. Something we’ve never done in the 21st century.

While Brunson and Randle aren’t homegrown, their legacy will be as Knicks as far as I’m concerned. Brunson best season of his career came as a Knick and arguably Randle’s best 4 seasons of his career are as a Knick.

While it’s great to have homegrown talent and legacies made as a Knick, IQ could cost a premium.

We did NOT extend IQ this offseason, which is not a promising sign. Yes he’s an RFA, but that almost always mean overpaying him because the extension didn’t work out.

Since he is the closet to a new contact and seemingly didn’t take our offer, he is most likely to seek other teams this offseason. If a team is selling this deadline he would be an interesting young piece.

I think it makes most sense to use Iq as part of a trade

Depends on what the return is. IQ/ Fournier aren’t returning a star player unless I’m missing some who make 20-25M

Personally with how well IQ is playing I’d lean towards paying him this summer and strongly consider making him the starting SG going into next season depending on how Grimes plays the rest of the year.

I would lean towards using Randle as part of a trade and target Zion. They are sitting at 9-9 and I think that’s a situation worth monitoring. I know a lot of ppl are anti Zion because of health but I believe he is the type of player to raise the ceiling of this team.

LOL……we a bringing up a Zion trade again? Just imagine we drafted him and he had a first 3 years here like he did in N.O. He would have been booed out of MSG. Also if we talking about on the court, I can’t see him working here with his lack of a jumpshot and our lack of 3 point shooting as a team. It would just be a congested mess.

Sentimentiality doesnt get you wins, but impact metrics, connectability, latent impact and malleability do. Quick excels in each of those measures.

    IQ could cost a premium.

Its true. BUT, he demonstrably has a premium level impact for us in his role, and (imo) has upward scalability for us and to any team. Im willing to pay invest in that.

If a team is selling this deadline he would be an interesting young piece.

Depends what the return is doesnt it ? Particularly when you have the trump card option ultimately to keep him ?

Since we can’t do a sign and trade for him, it’s kind of tough to get good value for him. And there aren’t any good stars on or coming to the market before the trade deadline. Therefore I predict we will match any offer up to around $100,000,00 over 4 years, if he continues to play like this . He’s better than RJ at this point.

IQ being paid $4M like he is this year is one of the biggest value deals in the league. But if he is indeed asking for $25M/year then his value becomes neutral relative to what he is being paid, at best. I think we should keep him for the season and have a chat with the Wizards in the offseason to see what they would offer for him.

    No.

Some combination of Grimes, Fournier (and his attractive expiring contract), Deuce, Randle, a couple 1RPs, Hart.

…that’s the pool of assets we could pull from to upgrade talent on this team.
