  • I think most people’s initial reaction is to prefer parity. A balanced league and an unpredictable landscape, gives all fanbases some level of hope.

    However, having dominant teams in the league gives fans “villains” to shoot for…and this is fun. People get a big sense of satisfaction knocking down a big enemy. Beating the Lakers or Boston is different than beating Cleveland or Memphis. It’s more satisfying.

    I actually think right now we are seeing the birth of some potential dominant teams like Sac, OKC and potentially NOLA…maybe even SA. I find this exciting.

    So I guess what I find so exciting about the NBA is the combination of dominance and parity. Getting to watch a big bad guy fall is fun and watching a little guy come into their own is exciting also. I think a successful sports league needs both parity and dominance, simultaneously.
