Remind me again why this is beneficial? So let’s say the knicks miss the top 6 by a game, or even home court advantage by the 5th seed etc. IF the nba wants to continue with this they MUST give some sort of reward for the regular season and an edge in the real playoffs, because this feels more like a punishment.

You do understand that each of these games (with the exception of the final game) would need to be played anyway right?

We’re not getting any reward or punishment by playing the Bucks or Celtics. We usually play them 4x a season anyway.

In fact I’m glad that we are getting a lot of difficult games out of the way early so that the team will have a somewhat easier schedule later in the season when they are more tired, etc…

Why are people have such a hard time understanding this, the knicks if they DID NOT make the tournament they would have played the bucks 4 times this year, now they are playing them FIVE if they beat the bucks and the C’s beat the pacers they will play the C’s for count em 5 times compared to 4 times

No one would have been happy if they lost last night or barely beat Charlotte without Lamelo so what’s your point?

Uh, what? Outside of playing 1 game against a team, for a reward, you would have a high likelihood of needing to play and beat in the playoffs to win in the first place, literally nothing changes in the schedule…

There is a reward for the players (the ones actually competing) and the players are obviously into this, so thinking this is some sort of punishment is such a weird/silly take, lol.

All these people defending this nonsense will be the first ones complaining if the knicks miss out on a top 4 seed by 1 game to let’s say miami who missed this and got to play cupcakes for two extra games.

You do realize we already play the Bucks 4 games a year so all they did was move one game into the tournament. We do the same with the Celtics. They aren’t adding additional games for them

I’m actually happy the Knicks problem is the schedule in order to make the Playoffs while we are playing in the quarterfinals of this tournament. We’re good.

This tournament only works if the NBA adopts a point system in the regular season (similar to NHL or Soccer). The tournament ‘group play’ wins would be worth more points than a regular season win. And the ‘knockout round’ wins would be worth more points than in the ‘group play’ round.
