…reminds me of all the tears and shredded garments several weeks ago about What Coulda Been because Will Levis had a good game that one time.
Anointing both of them as the 2024 day 1 coach and starting QB is equally annoying. Neither has doing anything for me to say, that’s my guy. AP has made some seriously boneheaded in game decisions, and our Offense has been below average with AOC at the helm. If we don’t beat a couple good teams, which they haven’t yet, I don’t want either back. But let’s let the season play out.
i dont mind giving antonio another year, even oconnell. but we should 100% try to get one of the top qbs in the draft and let them compete.
Fun fact: the top QBs in the 2024 nfl draft have started a combined zero games and are winless in all of those games. But sure, let’s let the rookie and the second year guy compete behind a sketchy offensive line and see who’s better at it!
if the 2nd year guy cant beat the rookie then why keep the 2nd year guy? you cant pass up potential franchise qbs for a mid rounder that has potential to be a solid starter. we need a game changer.
Why draft the rookie if he can? The rookie can’t help him develop. And AO4 is barely dry behind his ears himself so he’s some but not enough use to the rookie’s development. And the rookie can’t develop anyway because he’s on the bench. And none of this helps the team in any way whatsoever. So what is the point in drafting him?
The only “benefit” at all, if we can call it that, is giving the peanut gallery someone to point at and demand be the starter whenever O’Connell stumbles. Of course, when the rookie stumbles we get a couple weeks of “he’s just a rookie,” like we saw with O’C, but they turn on the rookie soon enough, like we see with O’C. And then they move on to blaming the coaches, gm, owner. It’s a lot of fun for the peanut gallery. Doesn’t do much for the team though.
Ben Johnson needs to be the head coach. I like pierce but Johnson is running an amazing offense in Detroit and is virtually loved by everyone. He just seems like the perfect guy in an offensive minded league.
I’m okay with giving AP another shot, but not drafting a QB with the amount of talent at the position coming out of college this year would be organizational malpractice. Best case scenario is that AOC continues to play decently, and he starts next years while the rook sits and learns
Jim Harbaugh and Bo Nix are gonna get us a super bowl guaranteed
/s
Bo Nix: 37 TDs, 2 Picks
Why the hate towards him?I don’t know about Nix. I think at the NFL level competent coaching/systems have at least 40% of success. With talent, work ethic, and sports IQ having the other highest %. But to say Harbaugh couldn’t improve our chances for success based on his past performances, I think, isn’t reasonable. A smart betting man bets on proven success and history. Coaching in the NFL is by far the most important in the major professional sports and Harbaugh has proven successful time after time, this cannot be debated.
I’m for giving AOC more time, he’s a late-round rookie who came to a team that had just signed a quarterback and he’s using an offensive scheme that the Raiders have already basically admitted is a failure (by firing JMD mid-season). The only way I’d consider replacing him is if an absolute unicorn of a QB becomes available via FA or trade, otherwise there’s no reason to replace him with another experiment.
He’s proven he can make the throws, stand in the pocket, take NFL hits, etc. The thing to prove now is if he can adjust to the speed of the NFL game, and it’s unfair to expect that from him today. 2024 is the better gauge because he will have the first team reps in camp and face first stringers in preseason.
AP situation really depends on if the team can find a good offensive coordinator who is willing to work under him. Our new OC will need to completely reinstall the offense so we need someone who will hold down that spot for years and not just immediately go for a HC job elsewhere.
