You are correct. BUT, how many times over that 16-game losing streak did the Chiefs get lucky to beat us? Eight of those 16 games were decided by one score. I say this not as a moral victory (we’re not the Lakers) but to demonstrate that literally half of those losses could have been wins had one ball bounced differently. Yes we got outplayed in many of those as well, but for one team to consistently lose to another that many times, luck is absolutely a factor.
Even looking at just this season’s games, how much bullshit bad luck have we had? The Jets put the ball on the ground like four times and we recovered only one of those. I know for a fact that’s happened in other games but I can’t remember specifics of it.
So yes, we did get lucky in this game. Lucky that we had defenders nearby when the ball was on the ground and that they were able to recover those. Lucky that their receivers (including Kelce) had a case of the butterfingers. Lucky that Mahomes isn’t Michael Jordan and played how you’d expect from a guy with the flu. But we were due, and it feels better to get that luck here than it would have against any other team.
Eh, good teams find ways to win close games just like bad teams find ways to lose them. They manufacture much of their own “luck,” for better or worse. Sure maybe a couple games in that streak could be chalked up to pure dumb luck, but it’s mostly just a case of the chiefs having been very good and the Broncos having been very bad.
And last night wasn’t luck. That was a decisive two score victory in which the defense became a turnover machine, special teams was firing, and the offense did enough. Anybody that says it was lucky is in denial.
No you beat them because Payton took his head out of his ass and committed to the run, which is what he should have done the first time. If you guys did that the first time, you would have won.
