If they had just either lowered the price on the BZ4X or treated the battery pack less conservatively, there’s actually a market segment for them to fill with the Bolt EUV leaving the market for a while and the lower trims of the ID4 being perpetually unavailable. Instead they priced it too high and it has a worse charging curve than a first Gen Bolt somehow.

My city has tons of small businesses that heavily use vehicles like the Prius, Bolt, and Leaf for city driving. With the Bolt and Leaf going away, there’s opportunity there for a cheaper, no-frills, low cost of operation EV that has a useful amount of space.

“The automaker recorded sales growth across all regions. Electrified vehicle sales accounted for 35.3% of total sales. However, HEVs carried the load with 1.7 million sold compared to only 59,000 battery electric vehicles.
Despite issuing new guidance, Toyota expects a lower share of EV sales. The company still expects to sell 9.6 million vehicles this fiscal year but with a significantly lower share of electric cars.
Toyota cut its EV sales forecast from an expected 202,000 to only 123,000. That’s almost a 40% difference.”

While that is a cut, that’s still them expecting to more than double sales in a year, which is exactly in range for this years projected increase of the market

It’s easier to increase by a decent percentage when EV sales are so low. Toyota doesn’t have a decent EV to offer at the moment.

Toyota is fucked. They INCORRECTLY thought the future was hydrogen. For 20+ years they’ve failed. Wonder if this is the beginning of the end for Toyota?
