Alright I’m loosing my mind here. I’m looking for an EV to replace my 2010 Subaru Forrester for something under 30k after incentivies. After way too many test drives I settled on the following list in order of preference. [Side note - I love the Model Y, but I’m not paying 40k for a car. Nuh-uh]

  1. 2020-2021 Kona EV Ultimate
  2. 2022-2023 Bolt EUV LT
  3. Anything else. The Niro is probably next up if I had to pick.

The problem is both the Bolt and Kona have major reliability concerns through Consumer Reports.

My question to the sub is am I crazy and I should stop and get an ICE car for a few years? I really don’t want to but the idea of avoiding gigantic maintenance bomb drops that come with ICE cars by going electric is starting to fade.

Have you tried looking up other sources on reliability? These vehicles did get battery recalls, but that’s basically been taken care of already and otherwise don’t seem to have notably bad reliability concerns.

How can a ev be unreliable? There is a battery and tires. Way less parts than a gas vehicle. Way less stuff can break
