Sea Dogs series. Extremely underrated yet also the ultimate pirate experience.

Pixel piracy is the closest today to Sid Meier’s. You hire crew, build your ship, skill your crew and sail around.

Assassin’s Creed 4 always gets mentioned but I think it’s really really mediocre in the piracy department. Still too much AC in it

Assassins creed black flag is probably the best you’re gonna get

I’ve heard Sea of Thieves is decent too now

But there is a criminal level of neglect for pirate games

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag is the only choice

Assassin’s Creed mostly sucks but Black Flag is such a fun game and probably the only good single player pirate game out there…

You build and customise your ship, grow your crew, sing sea shanties, fight and board other ships, explore loads of islands, use a diving bell to go underwater, all sort of pirate stuff

See of thieves is the best pirate game of all time

If you have friends to play with, I’d recommend “Sea of Thieves”. It’s a gamee where you freely sail seas and loot/raid fortresses, dig for chests, do missions and fight others in a multiplayer world.

Maybe a bad explanation for the game, but me and my friends love it! :)

Sea of thieves for one assassin’s Creed black flag for the second and assassin’s Creed Rouge you don’t totally play as a pirate but it’s an honorable mention from me

From what I can see, Google gives you a pretty exhaustive list. So, I’ll just go over my personal favorites:

• Sid Meier’s Pirates (the 2004 remake): accessible, charming, and so. damn. addictive

• Sea of Thieves: the best multiplayer pirate-themed game I know of

• Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag: hasn’t aged as well as Reddit might make you believe, but still a must-play

  • if you like this one, I also highly recommend the Freedom Cry expansion and AC: Rogue

• Risen 2 and 3: from the makers of Gothic, clunky but incredibly immersive

• Sea Dogs: a cult classic, but that also means it’s old af and some of its aspects simply haven’t aged well, so only for the most hc pirates nowadays
