That may sound weird to you, but my favorite devices are those that grew on me and became special.

Like the Nokia N900, my first Gameboy or my favorite X24/X60 thinkpads. They have served for years and have a place in my heart.

My steam deck became special too as it took this type of special place.

I will not abandon the poor thing to the siren of a lightly upgraded hardware.

We have still great gaming times to live.

Why I’m not switching: because I already have this one and OLED isn’t enough for me to fork over hundreds. I’ll maybe consider upgrading my 64gb internal SSD soon though…

The battery and efficiency increases are what make this worth it for me. Those are TOP of the list things for “my SD is great, but” about my 512. The increased WiFi speed, updated and very pretty screen, improved haptics etc etc, are all just icing on top for me.

Obviously if you don’t have cash to burn and already have a deck, there’s nothing make or break here. To each their own.

Isn’t this just a common issue in technology? You buy a new phone, a few months later they release another with upgraded cameras, screen, and processor. Just resist the tempation if you already have it. It’s not like Valve has stopped upgrading the deck…or suddenly the OLED deck can run more demanding games.

I bought the original nintendo switch. 6 months later the OLED was released. I stick with my switch anyways.

They will never stop tempting you to buy a new product. Be content with what you already have.

If you already own a Steam Deck, I think it’s better to wait for the next major revision (Steam Deck 2 or whatever they’ll call it). The original deck is just fine, and I’ve never had any issues with battery life, because I just don’t have time to play it much. Of course everybody is different, so that’s just me.

I’d say as long as your current deck works fine you don’t need the mid gen upgrade. But if you you feel you’ll benefit from the better battery maybe consider

Easier, I’m not a Nintendo player and I’m not going to buy the same console for more money just for a stupid upgrade.
