I’m sorry, I just can’t get over how frumpy and weird this thing looks. Current gen Type R is so much more pleasing from a visual standpoint

Completely agree, the front end is not a strong point of the GRC. The front end of the CTR gives me R34 vibes with its squared off look.

I own a 2018 Focus RS. I haven’t experienced it yet, but the RS will also go into limp mode after some hard laps. Usually 15-30 minutes depending how hard you’re driving. This seems to be the new norm, our old cars also had the same issues it’s just there weren’t smart computers that would shut down the cars to save them.

With that said. I’m not a fan of Savage Geese. His production quality is amazing, but his opinions were dogwater on the Focus RS. It was almost like he had an axe to grind. He kept referring to it as a FWD car because of the smart AWD system which was annoying among some other things.

Very interesting that the shop owner claims that he was able to reduce oil temps down to 240F. I wonder what is different about the cooling/airflow compared to this from the FK8 and FL5.

As it stands right now with the FL5 just an oil cooler and a radiator upgrade will alleviate cooling issues. For the FK8 you need 2 oil coolers + 2 Auxiliary radiators, to fix the cooling (this is a bit overkill for most but its needed for fast drivers. The owner of the FK8 with a bunch of records on the West Coast tracks just tried out a new radiator kit under development and had success. 0 cooldown laps for a 20minute HPDE session).

Seems like the GRC needs less engine cooling modifications that the CTR which is interesting.

I love how you always hear some of these track cars calling emergency services during a track day because of the G forces.

This Corolla has done it, I’ve heard of Camaro’s doing it, and its always just funny to me.

There really should be an option to turn it off if your on a track if the system is that sensitive.

I don’t understand what Toyota is doing with their performance cars. We all know about the oil pressure issue on the GR86, and the most “track purposed” car they’ve made, the GR Corolla can hardly handle 1 lap of a road course. Did Toyota not think people were going to take their cars to the track and discover that all that talk about track capability was just a marketing ploy?

looks like a really fun daily driver especially for those who don’t like the snoozefest of current cars without much feedback. not a track machine but like the fun cars of the past like focus RS, mazdaspeed3 etc…
