This sub loves to talk about starting your studs & I think more than anything hates the idea of “getting cute.” Whilst I agree the concept of speculating on a player by putting them in your starting lineup is risky, it’s bound to certainly work out at least some of the time.

When has “getting cute” worked out for y’all before?

Started Allegier the other week because I assumed he would get goal line work. Turns out Bijan was sick and Allegier decided to be a starter that game.

When I spent all off season hyping up Sam Howell to myself and my league mates, then when draft day came I just waited until the last pick to scoop him up In all 3 leagues. He has been serviceable, if not elite in every week except for his 4 int game, and I was able to use those earlier picks on solid bench depth.

Picked up Ben DiNucci, Dez Bryant, and Dillon Stoner for championship week last season because I thought they’d be funny players to have on my bench. Won the ship.

Last year I flexed Khalil Shakir week 3 instead of Rashad Penny/Ken Walker

A couple years ago I had Kupp, Diggs, and Hill in a 14 team PPR league (it was the year Kupp was coming off an injury so I got him in the 4th round). And I destroyed everyone all season long until in the semi finals my opponent started fucking Rex Burkhead who he picked up that week and he went off along with the rest of his team and my dream season was over.

My opponent last week decided to swap out Stroud for Mac last minute. I’d say his “getting cute” worked out quite well for me.

My favorite moment had to be something cute to me, but maybe not to others. Kamara’s rookie season, I drafted him so damn late, like the second or third to last pick. I didn’t play him week 1 but every week after, and he was like RB #4 at the end of the year. Still stands in our league history as the latest pick that turned out to score the most. Guy with Puka in that league has the best shot to break that record if Puka can keep it up a bit towards the rest of the season

Every year, once or twice, I get lucky when I put in Taysom Hill. Worked out again last week.

In 2018 I grabbed Robbie Anderson directly off waivers and benched my starting WR2 (Jarvis Landry) for him championship week. He went off for 25 points, I won by 1 point. Had I started Landry I would have lost.

I started De’Von Achane in week 3 as my flex for the upside, he definitely delivered

Drafting Achane in a redraft league in round 11 this year. I just had a feeling about him. Started him after his first game. Felt vindicating.

First year of Taysom hill being awesome, he was listed as QB/TE. Then the QB1(either Jameis or Brees I guess) got hurt. So he was a starting QB that you could put in the TE spot. After a week or two, they changed the designation to QB only. But if you had him in your Roster as a TE for ESPN, he could stay as long as you didn’t move him, or make any adds/drops. So, I kept that motherfucker in there for many weeks. Now I probably wouldn’t do it, as I think it’s borderline immortal, but I was younger and edgier back then.
