Not trolling here, genuinely curious. I know so many people with BMWs and they all say the same thing… they’re over priced, they’re not very reliable, the cost of maintenance and upkeep is really high, but they also all absolutely love their car.
What is it about BMW that makes you love it despite its short comings and high cost of ownership?
If you’re able to pick up a wrench you can do most basic maintenance by yourself, but typically people get this impression because BMW’s need to be serviced diligently, on time or on mileage
They’re great cars because of the ‘ultimate driving machine’ pedigree, and BMW will always look to use ostensibly inferior materials for everyday driving performance and pleasure
Today Bimmers are much more sophisticated which has its compromises, try and test drive some models - if you’ve never driven one yet - that’s what converted me from being an Audi fan about a decade ago
Very well put together vehicle. Rock solid engineering with equal high execution on material and build quality.
BMW covers the maintenance and warranties failures. All I have to do is show up for a loaner.
Each purchase I do pay a premium up front, however it’s not long after that BMW’s added value begins showing up in a well maintained vehicle that has cost me precisely zero additional maintenance dollars while piloting an exceptional vehicle.
Rock solid engineering…fuckin L.M.A.O.
25 yeas ago, BMW made great cars that had exhilarating linear power and a real driver connection to the road. And backed it up with superior German engineering and a feeling of luxury.
With each new car evolution and decade you get glimpses of it, but those days are gone IMO. But I still reflect fondly on the brand because of this heritage and hopeful that BMW gets their mojo back.
I had a couple of i8s. They were interesting and fun. The M2 factory race cars are fantastic platforms. It will take something really special to get me back, but I remain hopeful with a watchful eye.
Cuz when i park it in my garage, i hate to get out of it, and cant wait to get back in it.
