Based on the recent Ringer article, and our amount of cap room, the Pacers look like they’re going to be trying to make some big moves soon to pair Haliburton up with another long term, big name star. Thanks to Rese, it looks like our days as a boring, “basketball business” type team are nearing an end.

Who could be the Amar’e to Rese’s Nash? Zion? Jaren Jackson Jr?

I love this question. I’ve been wondering about this a lot myself.

Last week, I was listening to The Hoops Collective podcast, and they were talking about how critical the Aaron Gordan trade was for Denver. Denver sent Orlando the following: Gary Harris, RJ Hampton, and a first-round pick to get Gordon, who is a guy who fits perfectly into their system and works well with their all-star player.

So… I’ve been wondering if there’s a guy out there that the Pacers could make a similar trade for – someone who is obviously valuable and will fill a need but won’t require multiple first-round picks to get. The two teams that I see as possible trade partners for the Pacers are Detroit, Memphis, and New Orleans.

All three of those teams have quite a few bigs and are probably going to be sellers at the deadline. Would Detroit give up Jalen Duren, Marvin Bagley, or Isaiah Stewart? Would Memphis trade Jaren Jackson Jr. or Bismack Biyombo? Or would New Orleans be willing to part with Jeremiah Robinson or… gulp… Zion?

So… it’s a fun thought experiment. Thanks for asking the question!

Well if we’re talking about pie in the sky trades, then:

    (5). LeBron

He’s old, but he’d still make us an instant contender

    (4). A committed Zion

On paper a Turner-Zion-Haliburton trio is a perfect fit. As long as Zion is committed that is. How’s the burger and donut scene in Indianapolis?

    (3). Edwards

The type of A1 scorer every team needs. Same draft class as Tyrese. Nuff said

    (2). Jokic

The only twin tower pairing with Turner that might actually work. Pacers offense is already humming with Haliburton, imagine throwing Jokic into the mix

    (1). Giannis

Giannis at the 4 basically makes this team complete

If we can sign Tobias to a good deal, similar money to BB, then we should be all over it. Other than that it is mainly trades and ‘the’ player isn’t clear yet.

A hard headed PF would be very useful. McDaniels is a dream now, but who knows what will happen in Minny.
