I think I have only seen Lawbreakers fail that badly. What is the reason?
Arkane being forced to make a looty shooty? Oversaturated market? Some strange American culture war thing? Bugs?
Sad this is the game i got for buying a 4080
Microsoft does have part of blame.
I invite you to check out “Death of a Game: Redfall”, by NerdSlayer Studios on YouTube. The guy chronicled everything :)
Basically, no clear direction, changing games… and a dev which DIDN’T want to make the game in the first place…
The devs were hoping the game would get cancelled when MS bought them but they were kept to their hands off approach and didn’t intervene so redfall came out
I beleive the fact Arcane did this on purpose so in future they’re not asked to do it
Look at Rocksteady. The Suicide Squad game is getting a bunch of backlash but Rocksteady are committed to it, so WB is also committed that that’s what they’re doing with all their properties now
If Rocksteady from the start decided on making a shitty game and just pushing it out. It definitely would’ve changed the mindset of the execs
To me the more bizzare ones are like Saints Row. Same company, they had the budget, seemingly had the time but it’s just made to be like a shitty fusion of a bad 2009 game and a bad 2023 game.
It sucked… like uber bad and frankly a vampire game isn’t something anyone wants
Redfall is what happens when you have a team with no clear direction and leadership at the top that refuses to let a flawed project die.
We hear about seemingly promising games being canceled all the time and how tragic it is, but sometimes things just aren’t coming together or the premise is flawed and it’s on leadership to make the hard decision to either pull the plug, or push through to the end, and often either decision makes them the bad guy because they either canceled a failing project that everyone was hoping turned out amazing, or they greenlit a game that the team never managed to get back on track.
For Redfall I’m sure it was a matter of Microsoft needing a big exclusive to fill a gap in their release schedule so they couldn’t afford to let it fail so they kept pushing it along hoping that they could salvage something.
Tbf, even at its lowest, it had more players than Babylon’s Fall at its peak.
The game looked crap from the get go, I was tempted to try it but then their heavily scripted trailers just put me right off, gameplay looked fake as fuck, if you have to fake it, you aint got any gameplay.
Seems I was right to avoid it.
