I was watching his highlights for the Remix and he looks even better than he did last year. I really think he deserves a contract in the league because of his motor, athleticism, defensive intensity, and he has shown some playmaking chops. He had this BEAUTIFUL behind the back pass on a fast break where he was going up for a layup and did a not look-behind the back pass for a dunk. Very high level read and he is averaging 6.5 assists in the first two games. Only thing he is missing from being a legit role player is a jump shot but I think he will make his way onto our regular roster at one point.

I like that we are going after these bigger defensive minded guys like Minaya, Rupert, Camara, Jabari. I like that Mays and maybe even Reath have been solid pickups… I want us to be an organization that has a true identity that runs from our regular team down to our G League team. Looks like the first two games we won, we were playing very hard on defense which has been great to see this year from Billups guys, I am glad we are seeing some consistency there.

Wish we had some more breakdowns for the GLeague because I think we do have some interesting prospects on there. Interested in if Conditt can turn out to be something. Rupert is shooting decent from 3 and is rebounding well. I am glad he is getting reps.

One thing to keep in the back of the mind over the season is POR could have up to four picks in next years draft. POR and GSW FRP, a double-conditional ATL 2RP, and more favorable of CHA and MIN 2RP.

POR currently has 13 players under contract for next year, if Mays got a multi-year deal. So any of the 2WP’s that POR signs to an NBA contract / multi year contract that it doesn’t have to yet, is one less potential roster spot for a drafted player.
