  • The scale is curious to me, are you going by percentage of starters needed or importance to being a successful team next year? I’d probably argue that:

WR is 4/10 at most because you do have Wandale, Hyatt and Hodgins (as well as Waller who can be a #1 option when healthy) that group should be functional for a decent qb especially given the level of scheming our coaches have been able to deliver

Oline 6/10: you have an all pro LT a 2nd round center so 2/5 are covered. You also have several other reasonably highly drafted rookies. I’m at the point where I think we may need better coaching and pre snap adjustments as it can’t be a talent issue. 6/10 because we need to get depth and reliable starters at swing and RG

    Defense

IDL 5/10 - we have a top 3 DT in Dex and have nacho, we get another guy like ashawn or resign him with some mid round picks we are covered, also we have Riley and Davidson who could be competent back ups

The rest of these I’d agree with

  • I don’t see a lot of corollary between 16/17 and 22/23, Reese went all in in 2016 signing high priced vets to win, and they did, they then crashed to earth in 17 with injuries and underperformance, mcadoo while a good schemer really didn’t maximize either season based on the dollars plowed into vets

In contract Schoen gutted the team in 2022 and made conservative signings in 2023 while focusing on young talent in the draft. Daboll in 2022 schemed the hell out of each game while maximizing the talent of a bunch of misfit toys, regression happened in 2023 but the roster still isn’t stacked with talent and based on the key injuries maybe worse then last year for long stretches. Even with that we were right in the Jets/Bills game and have squeaked out wins with a rook udfa behind a garbage line

Net/net I feel awesome about our coaches and how they ve maximized the roster both seasons and kept the team together through all the injury adversity

  • I don’t think the word Tank comes up at all. I think the team leadership discusses what are the priorities for this year given the teams performance. Im assuming this happens a couple times a season with every team. For the giants im assuming

    1. They want to see what they have with young players, evaluating vets doesn’t bring much in the way of value

    2. Ensure that the vets that are part of the teams multi year plan fully heal from any injuries. No reason to rush back from injuries and risk re injury if there isn’t a chance at playoffs

    3. Let the coaches try out some different schemes that they would like to use in the future. Try things that maybe off script

    4. Talk to the owner about the comparison of last season and this, what can we do to prevent as dramatic a swing from season to season, consistent growth will be critical as the team enters year 3

    5. Focus on team evaluation from players to coaches to FO, do you have the right people to be the org you want to be

    6. Spend time with your vets and understand their goals. The way schoen handled LW is a path to ensuring future FAs want to be part of your org

    7. Evaluate the fuck out of the draft

  • I haven’t heard anyone say they are luck love prospects, that said Luck has been widely touted as the best qb prospect in almost 15 years.

What I have heard is that Maye and Williams are on the same tier as T Law as prospects so if you set your expectations on them being guys showing talent that could be too 10 nfl QB you’ll be in the right area

The final reason for the hype is that draft pundits don’t like next years qbs so may and Williams will get a bump as they are sandwiched between last years bad qb class and the projection of a bad class next year as well
