Upton Park was a favourite of mine when I used to go regularly. Always a good atmosphere.
Because where else would you rather be? All players are guaranteed practically 20+ games a season, including the back up 'keeper getting 10+ on the assumption they go deep in the cups. The money is good, they’re treated like royalty and they actually improve as players too under the manager. It’s easier to be happy when you’re winning.
If they went two seasons without a trophy you’d soon hear a few players wanting out under the guise of a “new challenge”, no doubt about it.
It isn’t hard to work out. They overachieved last season and then sold their best top goalscorer. For a club their size who recently got promoted, they’re operating at their expected level really.
Man Utd by far… Chelsea’s only real problem right now is getting a whole new squad to gel. The Chelsea owner is actually being a good owner when you think about it - invests in the squad, has already begun planning for a stadium redevelopment/new stadium, he’s just made mistakes with recruitment, some of which still have time to prove they aren’t mistakes.
Man Utd is just a toxic place to be. The fans want the owner out, there’s the Greenwood situation, the possible Antony situation, Sancho out the team, the whole Ronaldo drama and, of course, the lack of anything on the pitch.
As a Chelsea fan who went to several cup finals over the years including the big one in Munich and have memories to last a lifetime, I’d take a relegation. Might be easier to get tickets again with less tourist interest…
