  • I’ve been getting back into my Washington fandom roots (don’t worry, I’m still with Chiefs Kingdom as well), and I can assure you that Miami is going to bury the Commies. Maybe it’s a higher-scoring game than expected with Jaelan Phillips out, which means Sam Howell is safer in the pocket, but that’s really not saying a whole lot. Also the Commies defense is non-existent, which I don’t think is due to a lack of talent because they have great defensive tackles and some underrated pieces in their secondary, but even with JaQ Del Rio fired, I don’t think the coaching will be there to limit anything Mike McDaniel is capable of. And linebackers? What linebackers? Pfft, Raheem Mostert’s gonna be fine.

  • The way I see it, from watching this video, two things can be true at once:

    1. Rashee absolutely has to get better at creating separation and cutting away from zone that will allow him to get easily bracketed. If he can avoid tackles after the catch, he can definitely create separation to get targets. It’ll take time and practice, which he definitely needs, but I believe he can get it done.
    2. He’s on a very limited route tree, and that seems to be a symptom of our offense all around in general this season. It feels like we’re asking all of our receivers to be Kelce, even when they’re lined up wide for some reason. While I understand the reluctance to get any of them to stretch the defense because… well, we saw what happened with MVS, I really think we need to expand our play calling.

  • Believe it or not, FAU’s average pressure rate this season, which I calculated as the ratio of total pressures to total pass rush snaps, is 7.6%, which isn’t that far behind Karlaftis’ average pressure rate last season of 9.3%. Now Karlaftis is at 16%, which probably explains in part why FAU hasn’t been on the field a whole lot, but while I probably agree that FAU didn’t need to go in the first round, I can see him getting to the next level like Karlaftis did.

  • I mean, he’s on pace to match Tyreek Hill’s rookie season in yards and TDs, if not exceed those numbers. Granted, Tyreek started before Mahomes, and as a rookie he returned a lot of punts, but look where he’s gotten now.

Rice hasn’t gotten as many targets as I’d like, but if you watch some of his catches, he clearly has some of the best route running chops of the receiver corps. I suppose that’s not saying a whole lot, but as I mentioned, the way he managed to find space for that TD catch against the chargers while staying in bounds showed a ton of sharpness for any rookie. There are several other film analysts who have a lot of faith in him to take the next step as well, so I don’t think it’s just fans like myself wishcasting. I feel like he’s picking up Big Red’s system much faster than the other guys, and unlike Kadarius Toney, he can actually stay on the field.

I agree he has a long way to go, but you can say that about any rookie skill player. If he gets more reps and more targets, he’ll develop faster. Andy just has to have more trust in that happening.

  • Oh I already think he’s a top 10 quarterback in the league, if not top 5. Regardless of how stacked the team is around him, he’s playing at an extremely high level, and just because of his ability to process things while being athletic enough. Granted, I’d say the most valuable player on the offense for them is Trent Williams, and if we are talking skilled positions, it’s easily Christian McCaffrey. But none of that diminishes what Purdy’s been able to accomplish, especially given where he was drafted.

  • Except he isn’t? If he calls a play that has Mahomes throwing somewhere he expects his receivers to be, only for them to not get there, that’s absolutely on the receivers and not on the coach. If it were a bad play call, sure, and that hasn’t been perfect this season. But execution has been by far the biggest problem for this offense across the board. Same with turnovers and penalties.
