I dunno if everyone is a jerk but even super conservatively 1 out of 10 people are so you will got 1 in every game. In reality the number is probably more like 3 in 10 people, plus an extra 2 out of 10 people who are only mean to women.

So yeah the chances of not having one jerk in your game is basically none. Nice people usually stay off chat so we just hear and see the jerks.

It’s tough playing a game as a woman with a player base half of whom have never spoken to one without ulterior motives. Sorry about your experience. Try to make some friends and play with them. It made my experience of learning OW much more pleasant.

  • Imo Sombra is great at being annoying. Spawn camping is annoying. Ergo, mission accomplished.

However, you have to wonder if you’re maximizing value, or if you’d be better off in the actual fight, annoying people as they try to fend off the rest of your team.

I don’t think it’s the optimal strategy. If it was, I wouldn’t care how dirty it is. Usually it means you’re taking out a Zen a few times before he switches to Moira, and it comes at the price of your team being down a dps during the fight.

  • Unfortunately the overlap between heroes who counter Zar and Bastion is not a lot.

Bastion is fairly easily countered by Sigma. Shield him and use the suck thing when he’s in turret form. It’s enough to outlast his turret cooldown. In the meantime, if he’s close enough (which he should be for his turret form to do proper damage) this should get you to the medium range you need to primary fire him to death. Your team will hopefully assist too cuz everyone hates bastion (I main him. I know)

Dva also counters Bastion because her DM and high mobility allows her to live through the turret form, protect her teammates, and then Bastion won’t be able to get away.

Unfortunately, Zar counters Dva and Sigma cuz her primary fire goes through their DM/Suck.

  • I main Orissa, Bastion, Moira, which I constantly get told are the most cringe heroes of their given role and the easiest.

I have fun playing them and I think I bring value to the team by playing them. There’s no doubt that from a pure fun POV, I enjoy Genji, Pharah, Doom, Ball, mercy, Lucio, Widow, etc. More than my mains, but my low skill means that while I’m having a grand time, my team is getting tilted. I try to not care and just grind them but I often switch cuz I’m self-conscious about it.

So like at least I give myself props for knowing that I play easy heroes because of my skills being low, but at the same time, I feel like the key to playing those more crazy fun heroes is to play and lose games a while and not care about tilting teammates, until you can bring value to the table.

  • I played a game a few weeks back. We had a ball who did negative damage and basically just went in and died over and over, didn’t switch, never came back for heals, and constantly spammed I need healing while balls deep (no pun intented) in enemy backline doing jack. We had a cracked widow and I was on Bastion so kinda tanky as squishies get, so somehow we stopped their push after losing 1 point.

After round 1, A teammate typed in chat “we may as well not have a tank” tank came on vc called us all slurs and then left the game. As if to prove his point, we pushed without a tank and won the game.

I really wish I could message him and tell him that we did win without him. I never flame teammates even if they throw cuz it just feels like a bad strategy, but in this instance this dude literally went out of his way to get us to lose, was toxic, terrible at the game, and him leaving gave us a sense of unity that we got a victory with.
