  • Go back and watch the film. Metellus still is clueless in coverage. Yes, he can Blitz, but multiple plays he is sitting in empty spade, not covering anybody, with his eye pointed at the quarterback. He leaves people wide open because instead of playing thendeepest man in his zone, he drops back to where the breakpoint of his zone is.

For what it’s worth, zone coverage is not easy to play as a defender. It’s a matter of dropping back, not getting beat deep, while still making a play on the ball. In the final drive, Josh drops back in coverage with no defenders (odd choice because DJ Moore ran a shallow in-route). DJ Moore catches the ball over IVP (who was on a QB spy). Where is Metellus, who has the zone? 15 yards off the line of scrimmage, also spying the QB, instead of coverage Moore or any offensive player.

Another huge weird problem was the angles of pursuit and wrap up. Fields should have been sacked least 6 more times to my count. Hands on the QB, but then weak attempt lead to multiple LONG scrambles. This was absolutely a dagger to see each time it happened.

  • I don’t care how hard officiating is. I’m not asking for perfection. I’m asking to not miss the very clear and obvious penalties and stop leaving things up for interpretation between the officiating groups. There is no reason Dean Blandino should be on the show to tell us what “his take was.” It should be Dean telling us WHY it’s a penalty AFTER it’s been called. Penalties should also be reviewable because to your point, it’s not always right the first time and therefore should be able to be looked at again.
