  • NGL I’d be upset too if my deck hadn’t arrived before a holiday. I ordered a retroid pocket 2S for my birthday but at the last minute I got bumped to the back of the line and had to wait 2 weeks before I got it. I also agree that some shipping services are pretty ass.

That being said, nothing you can do now but wait. Getting upset unfortunately doesn’t do anything but give you a headache. Take a breather and carry on. You will get it sooner than later and when you do it’ll be worth the wait, I promise you that.

  • Sounds like you don’t need it. The steam deck is intended for either people with large steam libraries that enjoy handheld gaming or people who are interested in joining the PC ecosystem and want an easy entry point. If you don’t fit either but find portable AAA gaming interesting I would suggest buying a controller peripheral for your phone and download remote play/PSnow/xcloud on your phone instead. Same effect but much cheaper. Streaming is obviously not as good as native gaming but depending on the game, it probably won’t make a big difference.

  • Got an oled. Handhelds I feel benefit more from picture quality than raw performance. There’s a youtuber named mystic that reviewed the Playstation Portal recently and he put it perfectly: “alot of triple A games weren’t designed to be played on small screens” and he’s 100% right. Let’s take for example a game like cyberpunk. Is it neat to play it on a handheld? Yeah, definitely. Is it as enjoyable as playing it on a

Imagine if there was such a thing as “drunk refunding” lol. As apposed to getting buzzed and buying something on Amazon you don’t need, you get buzzed, regret a purchase you made while sober, refund it and the day you were supposed to get your package, nothing shows up lol.

  • If you have to convince yourself you need it, you’re going to regret your purchase. You’re setting up an expectation for the deck and if it falls short, that’s when buyers remorse kicks in.

Some of the best purchases I’ve ever made were things I bought knowing full well I wanted it, not needed it. When you accept your purchase is a luxury, you don’t feel forced into seeing an immediate return on your investment. You enjoy it for what it is and enjoy it at your own pace.

Long story short, if you want it, buy it. Take your time. Also I wouldn’t recommend packing it to the gills with games immediately. Install them and play them one at a time. It’s more enjoyable that way I think.

  • I’d say any game with a grind, in other words, RPG’s. Sure there’s a story and progressing in the story requires thought but you can pick and choose when you want to progress. If you just want to sit there and grind for hours at end, you can do that and the longer you do it, the easier the game gets. Eventually you can beat the game and add another notch to your gaming belt so it doesn’t feel like a complete time loss.

Also skateboarding games. No thought process required. Just do big combos until time runs out. Do that constantly trying to beat your best score.

Need is not the same is want. No one needs a steam deck, let alone an upgrade to oled but there’s absolutely nothing wrong with wanting something. If you want it and can afford the luxury, why not?

If you feel like your PC is already more than enough or don’t want to neglect it, you can always use it to stream games onto the deck.

I personally (will soon) have 4 gaming devices: a desktop, an aya neo 2021, a steam deck and a retroid pocket 2S. They all essentially do the same thing but serve different purposes. The desktop is for beefy AAA games, the neo is for emulation (I prefer windows over Linux for emulating), the steam deck light gaming and the retroid pocket 2S as something I can play “pick up and drop” games when I’m out and about (it’s perfect for places where there are long waits).

  • I expect the limited edition unit will sell out immediately. I recall hearing somewhere that valve is more well prepared this time around then they were before so shipping should be quicker and more stock will be available.

I don’t think it will sell out immediately like the first time. I’m predicting a 1-3 day window before they have to start taking back orders on the unit.

  • One of the reasons I sold my steam deck at launch and kept my Aya Neo 2021 was the steam decks lack of physical hot keys (not binds, dedicated programmable buttons). Having physical buttons for the escape key, on screen keyboard and task manager was simply too useful and important to me. I know it’s not an issue with steamOS and it’s moreso a windows thing but I wish valve would add physical hot keys to the steam deck.

Besides that, an extra usb-c port and hall effect joysticks would be a must on the next steam deck system for me.
