  • This is what’s driving me insane. We’re talking like Mayfield is just having an ‘okay’ season and he’s holding the offense back. In reality Mayfield has BEEN the offense. 32nd rushing team, poor iOL, weak receiving core outside of 1 and 2. I mean the drops have KILLED the team this whole year. He has a very solid TD:INT ratio and a good QB rating as well. Hell he’s having a better season than Geno Smith, a QB everyone was lauding as having turned the corner last year.

Do I think Mayfield is a LONG term answer? No, he’s too close to 30. But I absolutely think he can be a Kirk Cousins for us and provide stability while we rebuild the rest of the team.

I mean last I checked the offense blows because the rushing game is quite literally the worst in the league by a mile, and the rushing game has sucked since we had Arians.

Am I saying Baker is a top 10 QB? No. But most if not all stats have him firmly in the top 15 category. Canales is also a rookie OC, tossing him out after 10 games is reactionary.

You’re just full of anger huh dude? Like you don’t have to insult people if they disagree with you. I want Bowles fired as much as you do but the offense has shown signs of improvement and life

I mean the Seahawks scored 13. The Jaguars scored 3. The 9ers defense is GOOD, and we had multiple long drives and good playcalling. We struggled in the redzone but we also had crucial drops that kept that score lower than it was. The playcalling was VERY good for the vast majority of the game.

I mean Canales has at least shown improvement. His calls in the 49ers game were massive improvements and show promise.

For Baker, I think extending him is looking likely, especially if they sneak into the playoffs. He’s having a pretty good season with no run game to speak of. The defense has been the bigger problem this season than the offense has.

IF (big if) the offense keeps showing growth there’s a semi-real chance that Bowles is gone and Canales gets promoted with Baker sticking around if Canales can’t get his preferred QB in the draft (also likely)

  • I mean our offense has a rookie OC, we expect it to not be great.

What we don’t expect is a HC who is supposed to be a defensive specialist consistently having a defense that gets embarrassed, is out of position, and cannot stop long drives or get off the field. We had how many drives in the first half? And how many drives in the 3Q?

Both are to blame. But the defense is supposed to be a position of strength that an offense going through growing pains can lean on. Instead neither are reliable, and one has more excuses than the other.

  • Baker has the literal worst running game in the league by a wide margin, a horrible iOL, and inconsistent TE’s. Our WR depth outside of our 1 and 2 are rookies or second year players with clear flaws and inconsistent hands. He still has a good TD:INT ratio and is still performing on 3rd downs despite constantly having 3rd and longs.

I think people are letting their frustrations with the losing streak boil down to scapegoating Baker. Has he been perfect? No. Literally no QB is, Mahomes and Allen have both had massive stinkers this season. Hell look at Hurts and Herbert, neither are having amazing seasons. Baker cannot be expected to make every play every single down.

I still stand by saying give him the full season. If he finishes with say 20-25 TD’s and 10 or less picks, see if you can keep him next season when the team can splurge in FA
