The problem is accepting the fact we (Tomlin) are happy keeping the game close, needing a field goal or TD in the last quarter to take the lead, and then our defence holding firm or creating a turnover. Problem was today that our offence wasn’t able to get a field goal to take the lead, as it has in 6 wins this year, and the defence unable to keep the Browns from scoring (only needing a FG to win the game made it tough). Tomlin has admitted this team is not built to win from behind, but that means it equally is not built to put up lots of points.
Coaching, play design, and execution from all players, especially KP, is making it tough to win. Why Tomlin didn’t go to Canada and say, “run plays through Warren” is an indictment on his leadership. Everyone could see that every time Warren touched the ball, good things were happening. So, you ride the hot hand. It is the same when KP said the Browns played more zone than they expected. Surely, the HC can override the OC and say run more zone besting plays.
This is a balanced take. Also, the general team philosophy of not making mistakes has a bearing on game play. More risk, more reward. I think if we can see incremental improvement in all the facets mentioned above, three passing game will look much better.
I love how BJ was the first to celebrate with Warren on his TD run. The guy just loves pushing people around and the team running the ball!
Play calling. Quarterback play. Route running. Blocking schemes. Miscommunication. Overall, execution was horrible offensively and has been for the majority of this season. Everyone deserves the blame except Warren and BJ (probably Washington, too).
