  • I agree with the other commenters saying there wasn’t really anyone to spend money on. And at the time we didn’t know Monte would be injured either.

I think only player we really missed out on is P.J. Washington. He signed for cheap in charlotte and I would’ve love to have him take over Stew/Bagley/Wiseman minutes.

This summer there’s a few people to throw money at that fit much better and would help with spacing (and aren’t RFAs), like Buddy Hield or Malik Monk. Even bringing back Tobias would help this team’s current structure.

Some RFAs we could out an offer sheet in for would be Isaac Okoro, Pat Williams, or Immanuel Quickley.

Some other guys to keep an eye out for:

    Luke Kennard (Club option)

    Evan Fournier (Club Option)

Lonzo Ball (Club Option) - If he can ever play basketball again that is

OG (Player Option) - will likely re-sign or be traded

Reggie Jackson (Player Option) - may be looking for more money

KCP (Player Option) - may be looking for more money

A little depressing how many former pistons are on this list. I don’t regret losing any of the guys on this list since none of them fit our timeline when it came time to extend them, but it’s depressing knowing we haven’t had a good timeline in a decade+.

  • Thank you for posting comparison player stats. It’s nice to see other successful players having a similar field goal percentages and turnovers (albeit still less than Cade) at this stage in their careers.

I think he as a player is on a good path. He just needs time to develop and needs a more consistent supporting cast top to bottom, including coaching and game plan.

I, however, do not think his situation is on a good path. Specifically external to the team, the amount of hate and criticism he is getting from the fanbase is completely disproportionate to what is actually his fault this early in his career. The fanbase souring on him so quickly is going to leave a bad taste in his mouth and may further the chances he eventually asks for an out.

I think a portion of the fanbase forgets this is the guy that whipped out the buffs on draft night; he wants to be a piston. But if the fanbase keeps blaming all our struggles on him specifically, I could see him changing his mind on that.

  • I understand having criticism for Cade. However, the guy has played 30 games of NBA basketball in the last year and a half. He is less than 100 games into his career.

Most importantly, he shoots 89% from the line at over 4 attempts a game, which is one of the biggest indicators of future shooting success.

Everyone screaming from the mountaintops that he is a bust is jumping the gun to a critical point. You are going to speak it into existence at this point with how toxic social media is these days, and Cade will be asking for an out in the near future if the fanbase doesn’t give him a break.

Criticism is fine. Condemning him is not. There’s a fine line, and if you care about this franchise stop trying to drive him out of town before we even figure out his true potential.

I get it sucks losing but it would suck even more losing a star player because the fanbase they were drafted to never stopped whining about how dog shit at basketball they are before they even had a season and a half under their belt. Imagine how much more of a laughingstock this franchise would be moving on from Cade only for him to blossom on another team; that would be the franchise’s true rock bottom.

  • Everyone asking for Cade to be traded needs to STFU.

Blow up half the roster, fire Weaver and Monty, sell the team; I don’t care, this team does not get better by removing Cade. Most bullshit I’m hearing out of this fanbase. Get some vets in there and a coach that actually wants to coach then let’s make a decision on Cade in a few seasons, yall giving up on a potential star because of a situation that’s completely out of his control.

I don’t give a fuck that’s he’s not efficient you don’t turn on a player with his ceiling less than 100 games into his career. Guy is going to ask for a fucking trade and ball out for an actual competent franchise if the fanbase keeps blaming every loss on him like he’s some superhero. Guy turned 22 in September ffs. Stand by the talent if nothing else.

Monty has cost this team at least 3 close games by leaving our guys out there and not calling timeouts when the other team is going on runs/we have a scoring drought.

Not saying we would’ve won those games if he had used the timeouts, but we certainly lost them because he didn’t use them.

The team is too young to be acting like they can figure shit out on their own in crunch time.
