If this is because of yesterday, this is quite the knee jerk. Having a backup kicker who can hit 50+ FG is a rarity since teams rarely carry a back up on the 52 and you have to work the waiver wire.
Right? That hustle is a joy to watch. It also makes such a difference when Tate and Tari are your energy off the bench guys that bring hustle… and can extend a lead instead of just energy guys. The Brooks/FVV/Green signings have created such a homogenous culture of hustle.
Note the flair, so I am preferential, but I have really enjoyed watching the Rockets play. No clue if its because Silas was just so bad for years and seeing a team coached well makes a notable difference, or if they really are just fun to watch.
We are already putting up league leading numbers in passing. Very rarely am I ever watching and thinking “if only we had more WR depth or talent.” Instead, there are countless moments of “we really need a DT” or “our secondary could use some help”. Why would you improve a strength at the cost of a weakness?
No one disagrees that adding Wilson wouldn’t be fun to watch, but it comes at the cost of other areas.
Is that because the WR play is more flashy than a S/DE/DT? Or because of the actual impact? (Not asking with snark)
I think there are fewer quality S/DE/DT’s in the league than WR, and I just rather prioritize that. Maybe we’ve been spoiled with how FA/waivers has treated us with WR, but I rather take a chance there than with S/DE/DT.
Solid counterpoint. Really appreciate the analysis.
I appreciate the reasoning, but I’d rather over pay for a DE/DT/S and extend some guys than sink resources into a position that isn’t much of a need.
WR isn’t really an area of need for this team, so why overpay for one in a trade?
Where’s the 2024-2025 option?
I think everyone over estimated (myself included) how quickly this ship would turn around. New coach. Lots of new FAs and rookies. No set identity. My alarm bells would go off in 2025-2026 if we pick up the option of FVV after two non playoff seasons.
We just need to see what this team is trying to do.
Too flat if you ask me
LeBron for sure
Does Hakeem count? Nigerian born but has always had Houston as a home since his college days. No high school, but there just feels like a close tie.
Hear you on that last point there. And agreed on that pass rusher.
I think yesterday found us between a rock and hard space. If CJ hadn’t been hit a couple plays before that fourth down, I think we may go for it. He also made some unique decisions with throwing down field early. Part of me wondered if Ryans thought he was forcing throws and wanted to take a chance on the kick which alllllmost went in.
