  • The point guards its harder to assess because the roster construction has to change. For instance AI can’t defend like Kobe from a sheer tools standpoint. So they’d have to switch out D Fish for a different type of shooting guard.

I could see the SGs slotting in to fill the Kobe void considering the tools they all bring to the table. Its turn into a nature vs nurture debate similar to Tim Duncan vs Kevin Garnett. Kobe had by far the best career but how much did growing under Shaq and Phil bring that about?

I sincerely hope this helped you get all this off your chest, and that improved your day.

I feel like you’re frustrated and just wanted to vent. So I’m not sure if countering your points would help.

We’ll get there, friend, I promise. Brighter days ahead!

I don’t know man I’m having fun watching them figure it out through adversity. Seeing the wheels turn on how to get better.

Also if watching Devin take an array of Kobe jumpers that he actually hits while Wemby logs 6 steals and 4 blocks isn’t fun, I’m not sure your capable of having fun.

Frustrating Phoenix and Houstons fanbases early was fun.

Even the Pop drama was funny to me because it was such an absurd Popesque thing to do (though most people disagree with me there)

    I’m having fun.

  • The grand majority of Wembys shots are fine. He’s hard a few games of forced shots but most of his 3s are open looks that aren’t falling.

It actually annoys me more when he fades with a small on him in the post. Moreso because he’s not even shown he hits that shot than the “go be a big man and don’t fade” critique.

His shot diet will improve with better lineups, a true PG and more chemistry with his teammates. He’ll learn how to get to his spots and how that fits into the larger offense.

When his lower body strength catches up, it’ll also give him more options. His bag is limited because he can’t move NBA bodies around. So sometimes his imagination outpaces his NBA ability.

That also affects his screening which affects his ability to get open off secondary actions. That also affects his endurance which means his legs are probably not under him fully as the games progress.

All in all he’s fine and as you say trying. I don’t think this is anything not to be expected or anything to worry about. For all the adjustments he’s making at once at 19, he’s actually been fairly incredibly.

  • Yes I’m really a Spurs fan. And I think its weird to question that because I don’t hate Kawhi. You also put words in my mouth. I’ve never said I don’t understand or even that I don’t condone why fans still hate Kawhi. I simply said despite any justifications maybe its time to move.

But yes Im a Spurs fan. I cried as an 11 year old when the Spurs didn’t clinch the top seed in west vs the Kings in 2001 (my dad and i had season tickets for two seasons) not knowing they were just going to clinch anyway the next game. My dad had to explain it for like 20 minutes to get me to stop.

I immediately left to shot baskets outside in the dark for like three hours in anger after Manu fouled Dirk and we lost in OT.

I sat in joy with my friends and dad when TP hit that stepback 3 vs Miami. We absolutely lost our minds. Then we sat in agony and disbelief when Ray Allen hit his minutes later.

Even though I worked as a sports reporter in Oklahoma and didn’t really get days off, I made it a point to be in SA during game 5 in 2014 and watched us clinch with those same friends and my dad.

I relentlessly argue about TD being better than Kobe because Tim Duncan is my foundational text for basketball knowledge and I’m a former post player. Thats how much TD means to me.

It’s not the end of the world but it’s a tad bit disrespectful to question my fandom because I view things differently.

I would have responded to this yesterday but this comment wouldn’t pull for me when I clicked on the notification so I thought it was maybe deleted.

  • I’m glad someone reminded people Pop ain’t new to this he’s true to this. Pop’s developmental decisions have always been slow and methodical.

Even from a single season perspective, some of Pop’s best team start slow and develop late.

This is how he’s always built things for better or worse.

We’re 16 games in. This is going to be exasperating. Between takes like this, the constant need for everyone to dunk on Wemby using Chet and Spurs fans wanting to trade everyone every five seconds in the Spurs sub, I may not make it out of this season with any patience left.

    16 games in. Be serious.
