  • This is one of the issues with the obscenely rich that isn’t as discussed. Here in the USA in New Jersey there was a single man that left the state. there was an uproar because he was one of the wealthiest in the state and there was a genuine concern on the impact of the state budget. The exact dollar amount wasn’t disclosed because it’s confidential in nj but he returned a few years later and there were statements that he contributed about 120-140 million in taxes. The state collected 31.5 billion in taxes in 2016 (the year he left)

So he alone made up almost a half a percent of the entire state revenue in the state with the 7th highest tax revenues in the country. That’s an immense amount of power. When it happened people were wondering if nj would extend deals to keep him. They didn’t, but it’s not crazy to think somewhere would in that scenario when they’re looking at a 9 figure loss that could make up a noticeable percentage of their budget. If he had left Wyoming or South Dakota that slight less than half a percent of the budget could’ve been more like 4-5% or more

  • The best pan is the $20 no name stainless steel pan from a restaurant supply store. Cast iron is for Dutch ovens that need to retain heat for stews and curries and shit. Anyone that genuinely prefers cast iron over stainless just doesn’t know how to preheat a pan and use cold oil. “Oh I want a pan that requires ongoing maintenance, can never be properly cleaned, isn’t actually non stick at all, and weighs 900 pounds so doing any kind of toss is a total pain in the ass”

  • I moved to a rural area a few years back and there’s a lot of farms here. Thus, many of the people I’ve met are farmers or have worked on farms. After a year or so of asking people what they raise/grow on their farms it finally happened and I met someone who said they grew soybeans. I asked him if he was a soyboy and he was really not amused.

I’m pretty sure he saw it coming too, when he said soybeans I had to have a huge shit eating grin on my face. I was waiting for that day

  • but my (not really my) conspiracy theory for this is the opposite of open source: when someone is good at cracking games companies like denuvo track them down and offer them jobs to harden their product and take another cracker out of the scene. like I bet denuvo is just filled with nerds that spent their teenage years in sketchy irc rooms with handles like -DooMSlAyEr- and used to actually be members of razor1911 before they realized they could get game companies to pay them 200k a year

  • She is kind of a shithead tbf and fwiw it’s more like she’s the only person who is willing to do it. granted cracking denuvo is something that is extremely difficult and only a small subset of people can do but it’s not like she’s literally the only person on the planet who can. There was that guy who would just release the yearly update of football manager, for one.

It’s far more likely the people who have that skill set just don’t really want to bother with cracking videogames and the potential legal issues that come with distributing them online.

  • I get that this is a shitpost but this story unironically happened to me at the herkimer diamond mines in upstate New York. It’s called that to be fancy but it’s actually just quartz. I went there with a girl, paid to get in, we spent like 2-3 hours literally doing backbreaking labor. Like I don’t know what we expected but it totally fucking sucked. But we kept going because we refused to leave empty handed or to buy one of the already found and polished overpriced rocks from the gift shop. We found absolutely nothing. On our way out this dude that was near us the whole time is like “are you really leaving empty handed?” and hands us a rock with about a 1” long piece of “herkimer diamond” (again, quartz) embedded in it, warning us that removing the “diamond” (quartz) would probably break it.

We thanked him, left, and went back to our vacation. When I got home I immediately broke the rock. I was successful and got the stone out unharmed. It looks like shit. I know it would look a lot different cut and polished but they’re assholes for calling quartz diamonds and were morons for thinking that a day of a literal fucking mineral mining would be anything but awful. like this is work that is in many cases done by actual slaves

That guy was nice though, shout out to that guy even if I totally ignored his advice
