I really had high hopes for Bassey, but I think it’s time for a change at the backup 5. Just struggles to do much of anything.

lol Wemby… the one time I’m fine with you just chucking a 3 you pass it way where Cedi can’t do anything….
You’ve gotta be kidding me…
Not a great start.
Already struggling to deal with pressure and now Howard is hurt.
Let’s go fellas.
I agree it hasn’t gone well. However, Sochan has been vastly improved over the last 5 games. We will see if that incremental progress holds up throughout the rest of the season, but he IS getting much better.
Couple of things this article doesn’t mention, the Spurs O has done a consistently good job of getting people open (We are about middle of the pack for getting open and wide open shots). We shoot horribly on those shots.
Additionally, for all the angst about getting people in good positions, we still are #3 in assists.
Our problems have been hitting open shots and way too many turnovers, as well as dumb mistakes in the clutch, which has been a team wide issue. The “this is a Jeremy problem” is grossly overstated. He hasn’t been amazing, but considering Tre is a -15 NetRTG in the last two weeks and Jeremy is a -4 NetRTG, just blaming Jeremy is a stupid perspective.
Oh my gosh!! You mean that a team with a potential MVP candidate as their lead guard is better at basketball than a team with a 20 year old that has played the 1 for all of 16 games?!? I would have never thought such a thing.
To be fair, over the last two weeks, Jeremy has been substantially better than Tre. Wemby has had a -28.4 rtg with Tre since 11/11, as opposed to Jeremy’s -15.4.
Over the last three games, Jeremy and Wemby have been almost not terrible with a -4 net rtg.
One could imagine that a guy playing PG for the first time ever in his life as well as having to cover the best offensive player 1 to 4, might struggle and then get a bit better every game, which is what seems to be happening for Jeremy.
But the cold hard truth is that Wemby hasn’t been particularly awesome over the last 10 games regardless of who he plays with. At least some of that is on him making bad choices and just not shooting well at all.
Zach and Keldon are both (theoretically) good shooters, but wildly inconsistent. I genuinely don’t get why Zach is slumping so hard, he gets good looks and shot 37% from three last year.
Good. Hopefully this is weakness and we can sneak a win in.
Giannis and Thanassis (or whichever of his brothers he chooses to make the Bucks sign).
Tre isn’t the answer and Jeremy probably isn’t the long term answer (although the last 5 games have shown significant improvement for him).
I will say though, if we are looking at the number of open shots that get generated we are about middle of the pack in number of wide open and open looks generated by the offense. We just can’t fucking hit them.
Some is that folks don’t respect our shooters, and collapse aggressively, but I do think we’ve been generating good looks overall.
It’s just nuts to me that team that should theoretically be a much better 3-pt shooting team than last year is still so awful…
And that’s with Jeremy north of 40% even….
To extend on my own comment, 3 open roster slots, assuming we let Graham (non-guaranteed next year), Dougie and Cedi walk.
Barlow gets one IMO, so without cutting guys I think could be good (Bassey/Champagnie) what’s enough roster space for our 1st rounders. Obviously, Bassey and Champagnie are able to be cut, but I’m still hoping they both hit and are amazing.
Depends on what they do in the draft, but my assumption is that Barlow is our backup 5 and earned it so we resign him OR we will draft someone like Sarr, so don’t need to go pursue a 5.
I think we take a swing at Fultz, he’s still young, a great passer and good defensively.
I think we sign a veteran wing as well, assuming we don’t keep one of Dougie/Cedi, but not sure who. Maybe someone like Saric or bringing Kyle back.
It really depends on how the young guys perform though, if none of our young bigs pan out, then we will need a backup 5. We have so many picks too, it’s hard to have space for vets and not be stuck having to waive real talent or draft and stash picks.
It’s all about the money and if he’s good with being a team guy. The rumors about him controlling practice schedules and flying home to San Diego via helicopter all the time mid-season and then being late on return aren’t great…
If it was a team friendly deal, and he’s locked in as a super role player as he ages, I’m fine. His injury history makes a larger commitment very concerning. From a fit with Wemby, he’s a PERFECT 3 to pair with him.
Sure, but this is what being popular is like. Lakers Reddit still hasn’t figured it out and they’ve been a much larger community for a long time. It’s gonna ebb and flow.
I’m just amazed that we haven’t been attacked by a buncha French fans about “ruining Wemby”, it seems way more like a buncha American fanboys based off their terrible English.
Terrible way to get new people to participate.
Way better effort. I’m happy. The Clippers are aggressive and punch you in the mouth, we stood up to it, played with effort, clawed back from deficits twice.
Wemby played much better, high energy, rolled aggressively and wasn’t wasteful with the ball. Jeremy had a good game. If folks could have hit an open jumper, this would be a win.
I’m also very curious if we stick with Barlow as the third big. I really think Barlow is pretty good, and plays with high energy.
This is another loss, but they played fucking awesome, other than not being able to hit a 3. Great effort.
Now go eat some turkey and let’s win one on Friday.
Damnit…. Jeremy is hurt. We don’t have enough depth to deal with that particularly…
