I was playing the 2016 version of Master of Orion, and it’s a perfectly fine game, something akin to Civilization in space, it’s just not nearly as complex or interesting as Stellaris. Stellaris has created the ultimate space strategy game, and keeps adding new mechanics and features. I don’t really see why anyone would need to make a space strategy game again.

    Fromsoftware games kind of ruined like fantasy action

    The evil within series kinda ruined horror

    Fallout 3/NV kinda ruined other RPGs

    Crysis 2/3 kinda ruined like sci fi shooters

    ruined as in almost nothing else quite hits the same but definitely not actually ruined

    Fortnite.

    It became such a phenomena that people who don’t play games knew that game.

    It was free, and yet more profitable than other developers could even dream.

    Thus, everyone is trying to capture that lightning. And mostly succeed. This is in the form of skins and battle passes and XP boosts.

    It’s no longer about buying an $80 that is good on its own. It’s about live service with FOMO driven content that addicts lesser minds. And it works.

    Gaming suffers for it.

    I’ll probably get downvoted for this because people are very vocally opposed to this, but battle royales in general have mostly ruined the FPS genre for me. They’re the absolute pinnacle of FPS imo. I used to play CSGO and R6S but after playing PUBG and then Apex all other FPS games feel super stale and boring.

    I can’t speak for the entire genre, but I can speak for games that have ruined genres for me.

    GTA San Andreas… Every GTA that came after I haven’t enjoyed.

    The Original Modern Warfare. Haven’t enjoyed or played a Call of Duty since.

    PS2/Xbox era of Madden and NCAA; This honestly may be the best answer to this thread, since every Madden fan has begged them to go back to expanding the franchise mode along with bringing back college football. There are YouTube channels devoted to trashing Madden due to them not reaching the peak of the PS2/Xbox era. I have an Xbox original purely for the old Madden and NCAA football titles.

    The new Doom games have ruined all shooters for me.

    Dota 2 ruined all video game genres for me because they’re not Dota 2.
