If 3 people have died already then popping your ult (late) and going for a “hero play” is not the correct choice. Sure if it works you’ll get endorsed for it, but 99% of the time it doesn’t work and then you’ve thrown.
Similarly, learn to back up or retreat from a lost fight. Giving the enemy even more ult charge isn’t worth it.
Learn when you’ve lost a fight, regroup, try again next time. Stupidity isn’t the same as glory.
When playing on a higher level (scrims and tournaments) players will use a counting method to understand when a fight is over and who is actively winning the fight.
The counting method works as follows;
You have a ledger for your team and the enemy team. Every teammate alive counts as one point (with some people counting tanks as two), for simplicity we will say that a team consists out of 5 points. Every time a teammate dies, you decrease the number by one. Everytime you use an ultimate or hit a big ability (full enemy antinade) you add one.
Example: You are down two players so the score is 3:5. You are losing the fight. You decide to invest nanoblade. Both nano and blade count as one point so the score is 5:5, meaning that the fight is equal with nano blade invested despite being down two players. Once nano and blade are on cooldown, the score goes back to 3:X. With X representing the surviving enemy team + ultimates in use.
This concept heavily relies on the economic principle ceteris paribus, meaning that all other factors such as players individual ability remain constant.
Say it a little louder for the Rein mains who ALWAYS go for a 1v3 with the excuse being “hOnOr aNd gLoRy”
This! Witnessed so many players pop their Ults at the weirdest times.
This can also work the other way round - Know when a fight is WON.
If someone is running away don’t chase them all the way back to their base and then get killed by their respawning teammates - get the objective and then get into a good position for the next fight.
I love it when I can carry a round on Lucio without dying.
Selfish Zen players: Nope, I’m going to pop my ult and escape back to spawn.
I keep telling my friends that staying alive is a skill. No need to put yourself in a position to die during a lost battle when retreating and waiting 25 seconds to group up is always the better option. It’s especially annoying when the random is out there playing like it’s CoD.
100% of the time it works 1% of the time
My favorite voice line. Stupidity Is Not A Right.
Depends, if your main healer is dead and you are going against full energy Zarya + ana its a 4vs2 but still makes sense to pop DB sometimes, unless e.g. your ana is holding nano. It depends but yeah, agreed with your statement. The sense for these situations comes with experience
I’ve been trying to teach that to my friends but they seem to think I’m cocky
tbh a support and a long-range dps on a robot game shouldn’t die that much especially if there isn’t any sniper/hanzo in the other team
the only time you don’t retreat is if it’s in the end game and they are a few meters away from winningI miss ow1, where contesting mattered
If we lose one and the engagement hasn’t even began yet then I just backup and wait and watch usually 1 or 2 more just feed to the enemy team, its infuriating, also part of the reason I fucking hate Widow
