The text above says it all but this season Killian has been averaging .8 turnovers compared to Cade’s 4.9 (Jesus Christ) and Ivey’s 2.2 (on less minutes). He knows how to take care of the ball. I fuckin hate Killian starting over Ivey, but at the same time, he knows how to make sure the ball doesn’t get into the opponent’s hands on an offensive motion.
I’m not claiming that Killian isn’t a talented passer or a high-IQ player – he’s both – but it’s easy to minimize turnovers when:
-
Almost 100% of your assists are passes off the short drive before any defenders are near or passes from a stationary position along the perimeter
-
You are almost never in a dangerous position, because you have near-zero ability to penetrate meaningfully into the interior on the drive and rarely try
Killian is very limited as a true playmaker, as he cannot do anything to break down defenses. He’s rightly treated by defenses as a joke on the drive, just as he’s treated as a non-threat on the perimeter.
This plus his awful efficiency as a scorer combines to make him a dreadful minus on offense.

It’s like saying a QB is better than another one because they don’t throw interceptions, but when you watch them play you see they’re a game manager who dinks and dunks his way to 3 and outs all game. I’ll take Josh Allen’s turnovers if it comes with 35 touchdowns.
We dont have Josh Allen tho, we got Zach Wilson
Exactly. Killian is a passer, not a playmaker. All of his assists are from a stationary position on the perimeter or off the short drive with no defenders near him. He’s definitely a very talented passer, but the fact that he’s always passing from a safe position is a reason why his turnovers are so few. And he’s always passing from a safe position because he has absolutely no ability to drive into the interior, be that to score at the rim or even just to do anything to break down defenses.
Aside from his defender, nobody even needs to move in order to stop him from getting to the paint.
And players like Cade turn the ball over more because of Killians inability to provide spacing.
He’s not turnover prone because nobody is worried about him, they’re all just guarding the passing lanes so all he can do is pass around the perimeter.
Disrespectful to Cade and Ivey as offensive weapons to compare him to a dude just doing cardio out there.
THANK YOU!
I’m not high on Killian either but he is great with the ball.
Jaden Ivey threw it away 6 times yesterday.
Jaden Ivey also made a minimum of three plays that Hayes literally cannot make. All resulted in points.
Three different drives, using both hands, finishing or drawing fouls with either hand.
That’s 6 points that Hayes is incapable of making. They’d have never existed if Hayes had been in. And that’s in a bad game.
The biggest problems with Hayes aren’t what you see or count. It’s everything that Hayes can’t do and doesn’t even try to do.
You’re really comparing 6 points to 6 turnovers and god knows how many points allowed on defense? The comparison creates a negative +/- on the stat sheet no matter how you calculate it.
+/- from last night against the Cavs:
Knox + 15 Ivey -10
One is a two-way contract in the starting lineup, the other is a lottery pick who can’t play defense and threw the ball away 6 times.
I’m still thinking Ivey should start but his turnovers vs Cleveland got bad. Everyone was losing everything in 4Q
Hard to turnover the ball when you don’t do anything on offense. I’ll live with a few turnovers if the guy is also creating some points. Not all turnovers are equal
To me
the real reason is…
they are trying to trade hayes
He also works well with Ausar. I think that and his effort on defense is why he has these early season minutes.
I do think he needs to figure something out by the time Morris is healthy.
He actually has improved this year but he needs to be a bigger threat still
He doesn’t turn the ball over because a.) no one guards him closely because he’s not a threat to shoot. B.) he doesn’t drive to the hoop. He will stop and take a mid range jumper. He is a good passer but he doesn’t put any pressure on the defense and is easy to guard
Its not an unpopular opinion, it just a fact that fans arent willing to accept. Killian is our ONLY playmaker who is not turning the ball over and plays defense. Maybe that changes when Monte gets back, who knows. But as of now Cade and Ivey turn the ball over and foul way too much (poor defense) to play significant minutes together.
