I love KB—one of my top 5 favorite Titans of all time. Also I understand the optics of trading a great player near the deadline definitely looks like we’re tanking.

But my question is: does losing Byard actually move the needle that much with respect to whether or not we win or lose games? Obviously difficult to determine the impact of his absence until we watch the upcoming games, but I’m curious why it seems like the majority of fans and media are acting like losing a single player will automatically tank the rest of our season?

Personally my hunch would be that Ran is playing a bit of moneyball and has analytics that suggest replacing a top safety with an okay safety won’t have that much of an impact on the current season, and will give us resources for next season. That said, KB was obviously more than just a top safety—he was directing the defense and helping call out plays and coverages, etc.

Probably copium because I don’t want to believe in the tank, but I’m curious if anyone else has similar thoughts.

That’s what I’m thinking. Yes he’s hard to replace but that’s thr most replaceable positions on a team. Look at Andrew Adam’s last year.

If, big if, we win tomorrow, we’re only 1 game below .500. It’s not how you start, it’s how you finish.

It doesnt, and I’ll do y’all one better, losing Henry wouldn’t make any difference on the out come of this season.

Either Levis looks good, we win the next two, and we’re fine and have a shot at the division, levis sucks but everyone else finally gels we win these next two and Tanny returns and we have a shot, or levis looks bad so does the rest of the team and we let him gain exp and prepare for a top draft pick.

    You’re mostly right I think.

The season was over with or without Byard. Trading him just means we acknowledge that we are done, and might not be the first domino to fall

You’re right. This pass defense was/is not good with or without him. It’s more of a symbolic loss than anything that will translate to the W-L column in a significant way.
