Bowles and Canales with some head scratchers out there today.
Two dropped TDs didn’t help.
Oh well, I’m sure we’ll hear about practicing hard and executing better a bunch this week.
Bright side, Mike Evans a TD at least?
Devin White is 3rd! On the team in tackles, 28 behind David and 9 behind Winfield… and only one ahead of the benched Ryan Neal. That Winfield (2nd) and Neal (4th) are so high shows just how bad this team is at letting opponents catch the ball downfield. The safeties are constantly having to bring guys down.
As an example, the saints have their LBs one two as you’d expect, and the safeties are 5th and 9th.
Dpi on Evans fuck the refs
Devin White with only 3 tackles for the second straight week? He’s only had double digit tackles once all season (week one he had 12). What is this dude even doing out there? This isn’t the contract year I was expecting out of him, what a disaster season so far.
MASSIVE improvement compared to the Lions and Eagles game. Massive. Were in it, could have won it if things went our way.
Bodes well for the final stretch of the season.
Anyone keeping track of dropped TDs this year? Baker may be at 22 TDs without the drops. We had 2 TDs get dropped today and one last week.
He would probably have 4-5 more picks though.
I expected us to lose this game. The next 4 are winnable games though. If we win all 4 I may restore a tiny bit of faith in this team but if we lose 1 or 2 our playoff chances plummet anyhow.
Things I liked:
- Much better consistency from the offense. We drove down the field consistently against a very good defense, things just went against us.
- Better consistency from the defense compared to early in the year. Yes. No miracle plays by our best players, a lot better on the basics even if far from perfect. I’m serious here. Miracle plays covered up just how bad it was early in the season.
- Better connection to our 3rd and 4th wide receivers by Baker. Which hasn’t been great so far.
I’m more firmly on the fire Bowles train than ever. We gave up 420 yards and over 7 yards per play. That is terrible defense. Alot of those yards were super easy. Run an in or a deep crosser from a tight formation and we have a 0% chance of covering it. Teams are figuring out that we run cover 3 all the fucking time and just dial up cover 3 beaters to beat us easily. Then when we do play man coverage, it’s too obvious based on the formation, or if it’s not obvious then we’re in some wonky fucked up leverage. Bowles is really not a great DC. He draws up some nifty blitz packages and coaches good run defense but his coverage designs are really not that good. I’ve charted a bunch of our defensive playcalls this year and the deep cover 3 is just too predictable. We make any decent qb look like a superstar. The middle of the field behind the linebackers is always wide open because the middle safety is so fucking deep. We have a safety playing punt returner and covering absolutely nobody.
I don’t know how anyone can argue that Canales can’t make playcalls strategically based on the situation of the game. Yes a couple dropped passes but the play design and situation play calling once again leaves u scratching your head.
The play design is baffling time and time again seeing 2 relievers literally within 2 feet of each other.
Plays take way too long to develop and baker struggling to find open guys because everyone is in the same lanes and vicinity
Respect as a niners fan. Y’all put up a fight and had us on the edge during the 4th qtr
They chose a perfect thumbnail as Baker’s face is MFW watching Bowles’ Bucs
My heart is angry and wants to grab a pitch fork and go after everybody in charge of this team. My head says is there really any coach that could have taken this team to better than 5-5 or 6-4 (at best) under these same circumstances? I can name maybe two or three coaches who might be able to eke out a few more wins with our personnel issues given our salary cap situation. I mean firing Bowles might makes us all feel better but it’s not like anyone else could do much better with the hand dealt this year.
Think back to Brady’s first year when we went all-in for the super bowl, knowing that it is not a good long term strategy. When we won a SB, we all said it was worth it even knowing that we were mortgaging the future. Now that the future is here, many of us seem to be forgetting we knew that it was all going to have to be torn down and start over. I am reminding myself that 4-6 is actually not unexpected given the circumstances.
So funny that the two biggest stars in the NFL have had their breakout games against our defense. CJ Stroud and Brock Purdy are literally all the league can talk about…
Mike didn’t even get enough yards to make that shit tolerable.
