Pros
- There was an amazing scramble shake off touchdown pass unlike anything seen by a QB
- Another fantastic I’ll do it myself 15 yard touchdown run
- Sat in the pocket more and tried to find his receivers
- Great scrambles to avoid sacks
Cons
- He and the center had handoff problems
- The pick he shoulda looked left to feel the pressure although the missed block by chandler was bad
- No timing to execute throws in close coverage. Receivers were blanketed a lot
- Overthrows a couple of times could have resulted in more interceptions
Overall I’m not panicking. This game is mostly on KOC for calling conservative plays and the dangerous QB pitch, as well as Mattison for the timely fumble.
Dobbs was fun to watch.
Dobbs is what he is, he’s a journeyman…he’s a great bridge QB if we need someone until we find our guy through the draft or a very good backup for Kirk if we decide to re-sign him this off-season
Let’s be honest…Dobbs isn’t making the same tight window passes that Cousins can make and if you gave Cousins 1:30 left in the 4th and 2 times outs, he’s likely getting you into field goal range…we’ve seen Cousins do it dozens of times, he’s a top 5-10 QB for a reason regardless of what people want to spout, and I think people are starting to understand how valuable he is/was and how underrated he might have been by a lot of people
That all being said, Dobbs does some things that Cousins doesn’t do like the ability to extend plays and pick up yardage when the play breaks down…and it’s kind of cool to see what this offense can look like if we have a more mobile QB running the show…it’s giving us a glimpse into the potential of this offense with a more dynamic QB…for example if they decide to draft someone like Sanders this year, you can see the vision of how the offense might look in the future
Dobbs is a cable starter, his best trait is his mobility and ability to extend plays but he’s not Cousins, he’s not going to win you tight games with his arm and we’re going to need Jefferson on the field if we hope to make a run in the playoffs
Again, the one thing we can see is that KOC’s offense is tailor-made for a dynamic/mobile QB to thrive and I think that’s the vision that KOC and the FO have for the future
Dobbs had his moments.
The Denver had a rough start to the season and their defense is definitely coming alive now.
That last drive, every drop back Dobbs was pretty much flush and couldn’t scan the field.

This game was definitely a more sobering look at Dobbs. His biggest strength is mobility, but passing leaves a bit to be desired. yes there was pressure, but he was missing marks badly and there were some risky throws that should’ve been picked. I wasn’t sure what to expect as he matured in the system, but it seems like he actually got worse this game. It seemed like he was overthinking a little bit.
Some of the risky throws paid off, but man there was a lot of clenched cheeks for this game.

Lack of time with the team can explain lack of timing but not sure his arm is capable of tight window throws.

He is but don’t think he is long term QB1 material.
The reason Dobbs has never been more than a backup QB is because of turnovers and lack of accuracy on deep passes. When this year is over he will go back to being a backup QB for some NFL team. The Vikings still need to figure out their long term plan at the QB position.

We can lose a few games and still go far despite lions fans chirping about their record we know better. The only thing that matters is getting in the playoffs and winning in the playoffs. Seeds are nice, but our seed didn’t mean shit to the Giants last year.
One okay game from Dobbs should not start a panic. Especially when JJ wasn’t playing yesterday. I really hope if anyone learns from this it’s KOC. I actually really like him as a HC, but STOP playing scared. It’s amazing how great the team looks when we’re aggressive like the fake punt yesterday and the first half of the saints game.Center handoff is a “I still bearly know you guys” thing I think, and the Chandler block wasn’t on him. I’m pumped to see how his throws will look once JJ gets back and the coverages get looser on everyone.

Looking at these comments and im.honestly stunned. This fanbase cannot simply appreciate that no game is perfect and Dobbs did fairly well against a good defense. Haters coming out of the woodwork to overreact to a 1 point loss… story as old as time.
The guy has been here for 3 weeks. Let’s not pass judgment on things that take time to develop like timing on a deep ball, chemistry with the center/offensive line, and running up-tempo.
The first turnover was bad but he was set up for failure by that playcall. The second was not his fault, he got hit from the blindside while throwing.
I’ve never been too high or low on Dobbs but he has some glaring flaws to his game that have been overshadowed by his ability to turn a broken play into a touchdown.
His accuracy has been average at best and that has nothing to do with being here only three weeks. He should have had so many more interceptions the past two weeks due to poor decision making and poor accuracy.
He has a tendency to panic in the pocket and use his legs rather than being confident in his reads and making a throw. That has resulted in amazing plays, yes, but it has also resulted in some horrible decisions that has stalled a drive.
At the end of the day we gave up a 6th round pick for a guy who is giving us a fun season when all hope was once lost. And that’s where the conversation should end. But his errors are obvious and have nothing to do with being here only 3 weeks. Anyone who thinks he’s a long-term answer at qb is delirious
I remember hall coming in and almost threw the game away immediately, and we got “oh hes a rookie”. Yet a guy having to learn an offensive that relies on the pass in less than 3 weeks is being crucified.
Agreed, Dobbs is unquestionably a Huge Asset !
KOC needs to tune up his play calling …
I loved the QB pitch play design. Their linebacker happened to get thru but I think most of the time that would’ve led to a big run.
