Hi all, I am an Italian fresh NBA supporter!!

I am really fond of the whole NBA show which grabs my attention everyday. Now I would like to route for a team to support: since I am not living in US, and I cannot feel the spirit of the team, I must leverage on different drivers like team history, player attractiveness and super important a bright future ahead.

I would love to receive some insights from you all!!

Thanks

    Points for the spurs

5 championships since 1999. Most recent in 2014 with Italian-born Marco Belinelli. If you want to dive deeper into the history, the team just put out a huge documentary series called Ring of the Rowel (a rowel is the spiky rotating part at the end of a spur) we also have the winningest coach in NBA history, Gregg Popovich.

Fairly bright future seeing as we just drafted a highly touted prospect named Victor Wembanyama. He’s 7’4 but has the skills of a guard which is very rare. He leads all players this year in terms of highlights viewed on the NBA YouTube channel or something like that.

    Quick caveat

The team isn’t great right now. We’re the youngest team in the league and we’re on a ten game losing streak. We’re still in the experimental stage. But on the bright side, this is the ground floor. There’s nowhere to go but up.

    I am an Italian

Probably going to want a team in the Eastern Conference then to make it easier to watch games

    a bright future ahead

    This eliminates the Bulls

    player attractiveness

Congrats, you’re now a fan of Kelly Oubre and the 76ers

Lots of people are going to try and tell you to root for their team, but trying to offer an unbiased opinion… Regarding team history, I recommend considering a team that hasn’t won a championship, or at least hasn’t won one in a very long time. The reason is that the more decorated a team history, the more likely you’ll encounter a significant number of fans who gatekeep that, looking down on fans who weren’t there during earlier eras. Success breeds obnoxiousness in fanbases. Plus nothing is better than being there for when a team gets over the hump and wins a championship that took a long time coming.

Consider the Pacers or Kings; super-entertaining style of basketball right now, and some excellent up-and-coming players. Very chill and friendly online fans. Both have some interesting team histories… the Pacers being one of the ABL merger teams, the Kings bouncing around a lot before finding a home in Sacramento, both teams having some cool eras that they can look back on, the Reggie Miller era for the Pacers and the Webber era Kings). OKC and Memphis kinda fit into this category except the Grizzlies are a mess this year, and the Thunder are everyone’s popular pick for next rising team. Maybe the Magic, if you like hard-nosed defensive basketball over offense.

Whichever one you want to. If you want to pick a single team and stick with them, cool. If you wanna jump from good team to good team, the only people who will care are losers who care way too much about sports. I would say just bounce around a few teams and maybe their subreddits (caution there cuz reddit fans can be weird) and find what suits you best.

flip a coin heads is west conference tails is east; then roll a 20 sided die, 1-15 are the teams in alphabetitcal order (handily displayed in that order at the top of this very sub), re roll 16-20

Here I’ll simulate one for you quickly on google. got Heads for West. Rolled a 20, re rolled to an 8. Congrats, you’re a Timberwolves fan, very solid. And they have some attractive players, Rudy is def a stud.

edit: if you wanna go expert mode, make the nat 20 result is you holding out for the expansion team of that conference

Detroit Pistons. So you can become a fan of a team on the ground floor and not just jump on the bandwagon of a good team. Pistons are young and will get better. They’ve also got Italian Gabriele Procida waiting in the wings and he could make the team in 2024.

You can root for the Dallas Mavericks, our superstar is from Slovenia, Luka Dončić, so you’re neighbours. We’re 10-5 right now, top 4 in the West, have a young rookie at center and things are looking up for the first time in years in that department.

But since they’re in the West, their games are usually at 2 in the morning or later for us (Also from Slovenia), unless it’s a Sunday game, in which case the game tends to be around 9:30 in the evening.

    Knicks?

Little Italy is in Manhattan. Yeah, I’m corny; guilty as charged.
