Probably not. If the defense or offense looked like a remotely well-coached unit, there might be a case for making someone interim, but… yeah.
It also could look hideously ugly in retrospect, after people forget how we’ve actually looked in the first half of the season. Imagine the speculation if we fired Ron, lost most of our games, and the Bills and Eagles met in the Super Bowl: “Yeah, they were 3-5 when Ron was fired, but three of those losses were to the SUPER BOWL teams. Ron always goes on a good midseason run, and this time he had a quarterback who could have been great. It’s Snyder/Schottenheimer all over again.”
I don’t think Harris is the kind of guy who makes that kind of gamble (huge downside risk with no upside). The smart move from an owner’s perspective is to say, “Hey, I just got the job, and I wanted to let Ron finish out the season. Given the result, it’s time to move on.”
