mark was getting clobbered by fucking maulers 3 episodes ago now he’s able to beat a full grown soldier viltrumite that’s been conquering worlds for millennia just because he “stopped holding back”. Even Nolan who got hospitalized by the guardians while soloing them, only suffered a cut on his head fighting THREE viltrumites!!! Just makes them look weak in comparison. I feel like they shouldn’t even have any chance winning that battle at all, not alone surviving in better condition than against way weaker foes

I do think that Thula (the female viltrimute) was holding back and not really trying as hard as she could have. Reason being, the viltrimutes never have opponents on their level, so when they do they enjoy it. For example, when Mark finally got a good hit on her, she went “finally”. And if you look at Thula when Mark was holding her up by her hair, she had nearly no visible damage on her while Mark was beaten, bruised, and bleeding from many areas on his body. She then smiled and revealed she was faking it as she stabbed Mark. So I do think Thula was just toying with Mark rather than full on trying.
I mean, even if Mark landed that last punch we have no idea if he would have won that fight. Mark was all fucked up while the woman only had a few scratches.
And the show makes a really good point that if you get jumped, you are fucked.
Nolan gets jumped by the Guardians, Mark by the Maulers, Alien (although he had no chance of winning) could at least have landed a punch if it was 1v1. Atom Eve got jumped by her brothers as well didn’t she?

I like the idea that when Mark stops holding back he becomes a significantly more effective fighter. But I don’t like the idea that he basically neutralized a seasoned Viltrumite warrior after he stopped holding back. He only “lost” the fight because he hesitated to kill her.
It’s just poor planning by the writers. It will only lessen the impact of some big moments in the future. He should have categorically lost that 1v1 and shouldn’t have reached a position where he even had the chance to kill her.
It’s not the end of the world but if this is the direction they are going in then Mark should never struggle against regular villains ever again. It would be inconsistent.
Bruh what? Mark didn’t win. He was losing, then took the upper hand, then lost. He was never in a “checkmate” position. Even when he had her by the ponytail she was totally free, she just paused to see what he would do—whether he would really go for the kill or if he was still ““weak””.

Well it’s not even about beating the maulers, it’s about how much damage the maulers did to him compared to the viltrumites…viltrumites should’ve done significantly more damage regardless of whether he was holding back or not in ANY of the fight, the power difference should be way way way above that scale
