As far away as possible honestly
With 90m in cap space, some good talent on the roster, 5 round 1-3 draft picks that don’t have to be spent on QB
With a good coaching hire we can and should make the playoffs next year
some good talent
I just dont see much of it. Pretty much to me it looks like the quick turn around people are the ones super high on Howell.
I would love to seena team compete for 4 quarters…all 4
To me close is the eagles in the 2021 season. They got run over in the first round of the play-offs by the eventually champ buccaners. But the pieces were there. And a lot of people credit that loss for giving Jalen Hurts the motivation he needed to take his game to the next level. Next season they were dominant and it continues into this one. Hurts took his game to a new level and arguably outplayed mahomes in the superbowl.
So for me, close means you are really close. You have the muscle memory within the team of winning, you need to have already been a winning team. We aren’t close, and I don’t even think were close to my version of close haha. But I hope the only way to go is up.
We’ve already got a lot of “solid” players. If we replace our worst two OL with average OL, and defense regresses to the mean, we’re looking at a fight for the wild card. That’s not asking a lot. If Howell can make the leap or we draft a franchise QB, we’re more like a wildcard lock.
A division or super bowl contender though, I think 3 years minimum. We don’t have a single game changing player. The best teams have at least 3.
Personally I think the roster is an abomination. Close to me means close to competing for championships. There’s pretty much no young talent to build around. Our best pieces are nearly all on second contracts already. Most of the rookie contract players brought on by Ron and Co will be moved on from.
I think it will take 2-3 years to get the roster into a good spot to compete for the playoffs. I think a tear down of the complete roster is coming. Another 1-3 years after that to get the team to compete for SBs. The roster has zero elite talent right now and it needs at least a few pieces to get going.
Sam has no offensive line, once he has one he’ll be elite.
Thats quite a big stretch
If he’s putting up good numbers now, wait until he has a better team around him
I think the team has pieces they can build around, but they need to hit a few points to make a run next year.
Assemble a new fo and coaching staff
Start the rebrand process to finish removing the stain of Dan
Have a solid FA so we have flexibility to pick high skill guys that fall without having to focus on need. Also, draft the best LT available with a first round pick so he is locked in for 5 years on a rookie contract.
As far as game plan, I’d say build around Howell like he’s the guy. If he doesn’t pan out, we will have an attractive destination for a solid QB moving forward. Likely 500 or a bit better as a way to early prediction
We nearly beat Philly twice. We lost a couple close games, and blew a couple easy wins. It comes down to believing you can win, and attitude. I’d say the team could win playoff games next year with the right coaches
I don’t think I’ve ever seen us win 11 games in a season. Unless next year’s coachs and draft picks really ball out we are not even close to that.
Close to starting over fresh
5 new starters on each side of the ball. With a decent coach we should/could have been around .500 this year. Last team in or out of the playoffs is a not a good position. It’s false hope. Tear it down and evaluate everyone. Take 2/3 years and build something.
I just wanna be competitive at this time of the year man. And actually competetive to the point where people think we can win playoff games
We are further away then most of us thought last offseason. When the new regime takes over they may throw some babies out with the bathwater. The needs of this team now seem to be many. None are more important than the GM they hire!
In a galaxy far far away is how close we are to
I don’t think we’re very close at all. And I know everyone is excited about the new ownership and impending staff changes….but just because we have new coaches and staff doesn’t necessarily mean they will be good. It’s really hard to say where we’re at right now. Next year will start to paint a picture
