I once had to follow someone to church camp in high school. It was 100+ miles away, and she started doing 90 on the highway in her BMW. Meanwhile in my rickety KIA Spectra, I could barely do 65. She lost us, and I had to have someone else I was giving a ride to call her to get the address.
She got pulled over and ticketed, and still made it there before me.
So she had to wait for you in the parking lot? Totally worth it. /s
I REFUSE to do a caravan for reasons like this. Give me the address or a map pin and I’ll make my way there and you can do the same. I can’t handle the bullshit of following or leading multiple cars. I’ll die on this hill.
It’s also exhausting to be the leading car. I sometimes have to do it at work (a quite big industrial site) and even that’s moderately annoying.
It’s not the 90s anymore. I don’t need your directions. Just give me the address and I’ll meet you there.
I was asked to follow someone back to their place years ago. When we get on the road, they do 75-90 mph all the way there. I legit thought they were trying to lose me, which was weird because we had a good time hanging out. Nope, they apparently just drive everywhere like that. Red flag 🚩
I did this once and drove a little under the speed limit so it would be easy to follow me, and as soon as we were out of the car they angrily told me I drove like an old lady.
Thank you for driving like a sane person btw
Yeah, I’m guilty of driving quick on the highway, but if someone is following me I’m going easy. Granted, it’s been a long time since this has been an issue, like a decade plus at this point.
You just can’t win, basically.
I would have appreciated your easy-to-follow driving however, so thank you.
90mph is like 145 km/h, that’s like snails pace lol
Just follow my car (under my breath) ~if you can~
“you never had your car”
The most realistic part of those movies is the dirty cop lying to their suspects, injuring people and causing property damage in unnecessary high-speed chases, and fucking disinterested parties under false pretenses.
Once had to drive someplace with my brother, but in separate cars. He was taking his car, and I got to follow in our mum’s family van.
90% of that drive I was flooring it, and generally driving like a racecar driver …except that I was still moving at a snail’s pace.
Of course, upon arrival my brother started giving me shit for going slow. And he did not believe that the car couldn’t go faster. So, we agreed to swap cars for the drive back home.
Never had I seen him concede so readily that he was wrong. 🙃
I don’t know man I’ve driven some Honda Odysseys and Dodge Pacificas that could fuckin MOVE.
Well, yeah, because those have an appropriate amount of horsepower under the hood.
My mum’s car at that point must’ve been a first-generation Opel Meriva: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opel_Meriva#First_generation_(2003)
In the back of my head, I did also have this tidbit:
The first generation, named “Meriva A”, was based on the third generation Opel Corsa C.
So, take a car frame with the weight and height of a family van and put it onto the powertrain of a small car.
Like, genuinely, I’m finding Meriva’s being sold online with 75 horsepower, which is as much as the Opel Corsa had back then.
The Corsa wasn’t exactly known as a sports car either, so I’m really not surprised that its family van edition can’t accelerate. 😐Holy moly, inline 3 for a passenger van is just saying fuck you to any traffic that dares share the road with you that day.
Its so frustrating when Im driving my slow 3 cylinder econobox and someone can’t keep up with me in their DOHC twin turbo whatever. Its like dude. You have 350 hp under the hood. I have 78. keep up.
I really don’t care for people who give me shit for using GPS. Of course they’re all older.
often the same people who can’t hold speed to save their life but also inexplicably refuse to just use cruise control
Using GPS is normal. Using GPS for everywhere you go, including locally or places you’ve been before, is shocking. I’ve met people who literally can not drive without GPS, and that shit is frightening.
Edit: If you can’t drive short distances without a robot literally telling you where to turn, you shouldn’t have a license.
Hell, I use it locally if there’s any highway involved. Wrecks are common here and knowing what roads to avoid is nice.
I use it if I’m going anywhere out of town (even if i know how to get there) because it will redirect me if there is a road cosure/delay
Ugh my buddy used to do shit like this when we were younger, he’d get us on the highway and the immediately start doing 80 in the fast lane. No buddy we are not racing your base model honda civic against my base model chevy prism.
*Passing lane
There is no “fast lane”
on a two or four lane highway, sure. on anything six lanes or larger, there definitely is.
Anything above 3 lanes is no longer a highway, it’s a mental illness
The ludicrous lane.
They’ve gone to plaid.
We passed 'em! Stop this thing!
Y’all realize they count all the lanes, not just the ones going one direction right? A 3 lane highway is 1 lane each direction and a suicide lane.
- who is they. They don’t count like that here
- if you count like that, your previous point doesn’t stand. In a three lane (1 direction) system you have two passing lanes. Easy. You still return as much to the right (or outside) as possible and sensible under the way you’re driving. For example return to middle of you’re still cruising faster than the lorries in the rightmost (or outermost) lane.
they is the uniform vehicular code. they do count like that where you are, you just don’t pay attention
I guess technically it can be a 2+1 highway if you so will, but true.
Still, anything above 4 lanes is dangerously close to mental illness territory
lord give me the confidence of a man from a town with a population of 500
I’m not sure what the implication here is to be honest - am I supposed to be the small town man in this scenario?
True, good correction.
That’s like 130 km/h. That’s incredibly slow lol.
I can see that OP has had to follow my wife somewhere before.
Is your wife my husband?
It’s legal to run a red light if you’re following another car.
In a funeral procession.
I’ve never understood what the hurry is.
Nobody wants to be late for the late.
It’s more about the number of people than anything else
I’ve also been on the other side of this. I said 10 times I’m not a good at looking at someone following me while driving. Halfway through we go off the off ramp from the high way and at the end there is a light. I drive up to the light, it’s green. When I’m directly under it, I see it switch to yellow from the corner of my eye. I’m like fuck and check my rear view mirror and the person following me is nowhere to be seen. Turns out when we got to the off ramp I just let the car roll and only braked when getting near the lights (there was a turn directly after the lights). They braked right as they got off for some reason. Yet it was my fault? That’s some BS, especially after I said I wasn’t good at it and didn’t want to do it like that.
I hate that. I hate being the leader. I hate being the follower. I hate someone in the passenger seat saying “I’ll just tell you where to turn” because they always miss it. Motherfucker just give me an address. If I know it I’ll drive to it. If not I have gps.
Having GTA flashbacks
I was thinking Driver.
Driver with the added failure state of following too well.
My partners mum/stepdad recently, I joked that one would have to accelerate up to the speed limit and the other would have to slow down to it.
“It’s a stolen car. Follow me to my chop-shop.”
