Hopefully they can keep him for another year but it’s a very realistic possibility that he walks. He will definitely be interviewed. Can they offer to give him a raise to try and keep him if it comes down to it?
Continuity under a competent OC (or offensive HC) seems important to develop talented young QBs until they can reach their potential. Past a few years they’re vets and can stand on their own.
If they need to replace him, it seems like it would be a good idea to try and have some continuity with the Shanny tree given familiarity. But who fits the bill?
I believe we are going to see a shift in which less and less talented coordinators leave for HC positions. I believe Dan Quinn, among others, who realize they are the “HC” of the defense and don’t get meddled, it’s a pretty sweet gig that isn’t having to deal with PR and an Owner who want immediate results.
The younger ones who are going to be successful need to ‘Run’ their position for a while and develop connections for the staff level positions, which takes time. It’s a reason why we see Reid and Shannahan as so successful, they both had time to build a tree prior, learn the position to set up future coordinators prior to taking a HC position.
He should stay with HOU for a good 3-5 more years and then jump to a different OC (with more autonomy) or HC position.
IMHO.
Is that even possible? I always head in my head that OCs or DCs would have to stay on a team for a few seasons to prove they could become a good HC.
Taking deep shots on 3rd and 4th down at the end of Sunday’s game (instead of just trying a run or short pass) made this a lot less scary for me.
Not exactly a contingency plan, but makes me more confident CJ will be good without him
It depends on how that looks to someone else.
I think he should have ran the ball on 3rd down, but that’s what JAX expected. Who knows if those plays where meant to go deep? JAX could’ve done a great job of taking away the short throws because they gambled on getting pressure.
Some may credit him for putting the ball in his best player’s hands.
I think he spends at least one more year here before taking a HC offer elsewhere. He’s a first year OC and it shows with various mistakes made in some of the games played so far - his resume will look a lot better with two years of Stroud balling out under his belt, to prove this year wasn’t a fluke.
The only way I see him walking is if he’s offered like the bengals or chargers job - it would have to be for a better situation than what he has in Houston. He’s not going to like Carolina.
I think it’s too early for him to leave. Get some experience in the job before going for head coach somewhere
I don’t think it’s realistic that he gets poached yet
Bill O’Bri… J/K!!! watching him crash and burn in NE seems a fair punishment for what he did to our franchise.
I like him but I feel like this offense runs through CJ we will be fine.
NGL I do not see Slowik as HC material right now. He’s had his good games, but he’s also been questionable at times. Out of Demeco, Stroud, and Slowik, Slowik is the most green at their job. They’ve all committed rookie mistakes, but Slowik has been the most noticeable out of the three.
Which is not a bad thing btw, I actually have liked Slowik a lot. He will eventually get there in terms of being a HC candidate and I want to see him succeed.
He isnt going anywhere next season
If he gets offered a HC job he’ll take it. Those opportunities are never guaranteed to come again, and obviously the money is ridiculous.
That said, I don’t think he’ll get an offer. He may get interviewed, but I think he’s still in prove-it mode for most.
But, it only takes one desperate owner to ruin everything…
