Too many personalities in the scene routinely showcase incredible abrasiveness and arrogance which pushes away newcomers and fosters general toxicity and negativity in the community.

I’m thinking about creators such as IWD, LS, Thorin and Monte, people like Forest and Veigarv2 on twitter- they all often do this thing where if they disagree with someone they don’t know, they treat them with absolutely 0 respect, making it clear that not only do they disagree, but that the person is an idiot for thinking/feeling it.

Watching these streamers treat people like dirt over low-stakes disagreements while their chat eggs them on and echoes them is just shit to see and clearly fosters even more toxicity in a community struggling with that already.

And obviously not all creators are like this, Caedrel for example has a much more positive, self-deprecatory vibe and I’m not surprised he has blown up to the level he has.

And I’m not speaking on their analysis here, they are clearly intelligent about the game/industry. They also don’t treat people like this all the time, but it does happen far too often, and I think the community suffers for it.

I don’t expect anything to change, and if any of these creators saw this thread I’m sure they’d much sooner treat me like an idiot before anything else, but I just wanted to get these thoughts out.

Oh, the yearly “content creator bad” post that is full of people calling content creators some of the worst insults …
    Oh, the irony.

Must be hard to look yourself in the mirror sometimes.

Can you find any examples of the stuff you’re saying?

On a general whole, I sorta agree with what you’re saying, but at the same time, I also feel like it’s very often not newcomers that are getting pushed out.

A lot of these moments I see when people get “disrespected” and “dog piled on” are people that are just very confidently saying/posting factually wrong things. Alternatively, they aren’t pushing against a particular individual, but against a narrative that a lot of us share.

As a side note, I actually feel like LS and Caedrel are both similar in a way where their audience is no longer just people interested in analysis. They’ve both made their streams analytical but also a lot more memey at the same time, which has improved the mood/vibes of their streams.

Stop investing into random personalities then? Their opinion shouldn’t count for much since they are bad at the game. Your own fault for investing into these frauds.

Not to justify any threats the likes of Dom or Thorin might have received, but are they really gonna pull a Surprisepikachuface when they find out people despise them because of their personalities?

Yeah there’s big ego within League streamers. None of these losers would be anywhere without the “randoms” that annoy them. lmao

I’m a fan of some of these people but tbh I agree, it’s really off-putting when they just treat people like garbage. I think Dom has gotten way better with it the last few years (at least on stream). People like Thorin/Monte are just lost causes though, way too far up their own asses.

I mostly watch with friends. It’s a lot of noise amongst us already. We keep to the main broadcast at minimal volume. Can’t handle costreams, it gets too loud in the room.

If i don’t watch something live but still want to watch it, I’d see the highlights from some costream YouTube channel (mostly just msi and worlds).

I agree but I don’t see how this is different from the overall playerbase. there’s always at least 1 guy like that in every game.

It’s not so much personalities in the scene. As much as the personalities can be abrasive and aggressive, the real problem is how diehard the fans are. I notice you didn’t mention DL here or any of the actual modern pro-players that are simply abrasive and pretend they know everything about everything.

The older community is incredibly well-established and built upon believing that their favorite creator is always right.

LS and his garbage picks are “actually giga brain”, IWD is “so right” every time he shits on NA and praises China for whatever random ass team he likes that year. Monte and Thorin are like 40 years old spouting about the failures of Riot as if they weren’t a part of the inception of the problems 10 years ago. DL is the only “down-to-earth” pro and “trash talk is fun” while being stuck in master/gm like the rest of the old pros.

There are a TON of creative and fun, graceful and kind creators out there but the old heads are always going to have these insanely massive audiences that won’t just die overnight.

It’s one of the main reasons NA League is in the state it’s in. You have these toxic people and their cultlike fans doing nothing but crap all over the product. How is Riot supposed to market the game to new people when they see all these Twitch streams with thousands of people watching the talking head say that everyone is terrible?

Hyper competitive personalities tend to be somewhat abrasive and not always super friendly. News at 11.

Ratirl literally added an ERL player after a Soloq game on stream with 5k viewers just to wish him cancer.

When the ERL player posted it on Twitter, Ratirl responded and doubled down. Most of the comments were like “wow so based” and whatnot. The account Ratirl used wasn’t even banned.

As long as personalities like this aren’t permanently removed from the game the community will never change. Of course the overall community unpleasant when the majority of the streamers with 5k+ viewers are continuously toxic

People on the internet are abrasive in general.
