We all know OEMs can have huge markups/high MSRP’s on parts, but there are some things that are truly outrageous out there. For example:
Ram windshield washer nozzles: $100 PER NOZZLE! (available on amazon for a pair for about $15)
A rear park sensor on a 19 caravan listed for around $400, non-colour matched, while the same part on a 16 mercedez was $180.
one new front shock on a ferrari 458 = $3000
The A&P techs are laughing in the corner.
Jaguar LED headlights are like $15,000 per cluster. My dad had one warrantied.
That’s insane and should be criminal.
A new 4C windshield is $4300
Mopar asks $1300 for a new 4C alternator - its $210 directly from Denso shipped from Italy.
Shocks on my 2014 cts are a $1000 a piece. Mag shocks.
What was Tesla charging for that replacement wooden part because they designed the car too fast and had to put in a spacer.
There was a Toyota radio that MSRP’ed for >$8,000. They exchange them. You never pay that much. But if you had to order a new one, that’s what it would’ve cost you.
The most egregious thing that EVERYONE should know, is that dealers almost always use a “price matrix,” so if a part costs them $1.75, and lists for $3.00, they will frequently quote like $11.00 as the “list price.”
BMW X7 headlamps were about $7k last I checked
Certain Hyundai or Mitsubishi bumper covers are like 2-3x their Honda/Toyota counterparts, not sure why
Prius Prime trunk is carbon fiber and almost $4k for the part alone
Mercedes G Wagon 463 door is several thousands of dollars
Don’t know if this counts, but the MT-82 in the Mustangs is knows for having a pos throw out bearing. It’s a $80 part but you need to drop the transmission and remove the clutch system to replace it. $80 part but nearly $800 to replace.
